Description of 1930 Austin BANTAM AUSTIN AMERICA ROADSTER |
Totally restored 1930 Bantam Austin America Roadster. The restoration was completed in 1990 and it has been primarily used for parades and shows. It even won a regional AACA (Antique Auto Club of America) best of show award in 1992. A brief history on the Bantam Austin America reveals this was the ‘American’ version of the British Bantam Austin motor company’s popular car which started being built in the early 1920’s. Bantam Austin America began building these cars in 1929 at the Standard Steel Car Company in Butler, Pennsylvania. The company built these cars from late 1929 to 1934 when they filed for bankruptcy due to the Great Depression. The company reopened again with Roy Evans at the helm and became the American Bantam company and still making body’s in Butler, PA. Eventually, AB designed and built the first Jeep pre-WW II and supplied Britain and the Soviet Union with approximately 2600 units. When the war started Bantam could not keep up with production and the War Dept pulled the contract and design and awarded it to Willy’s-Overland and the rest is history. A photo book on the car accompanies the sale showing the entire build from what the original car looked like to what you see in these photos. Additionally, a vintage brochure on the Bantam Austin America is included too. The body is solid and shows no bubbling or rust in the lacquer paint. That is right, lacquer paint. Powering this 75†wheel based roadster is the original and rebuilt Austin in-line 4-cylinder engine of approximately 747 cc’s or 45.6 c.i and boasting 14 h.p. In high gear the Bantam can do about 50 mph and gets about 40-50 mpg. This Bantam Roadster starts, runs, and drives as it did back in 1930. In the video I mention that it is a 1931, but it is a ’30. Also, you will see one of the headlights was not working, but the bulb was replaced, and it works fine. There are no turn signals or brake lights. Just a single red taillight. In the interior the ammeter, speedometer, & odometer work, but the gas gauge and oil pressure do not. Since they did not have roll up windows side curtains were used and they are included. PLEASE BUY WITH CONFIDENCE I have been an active eBay seller of cars and other items for more than 15 years and maintained a 100% rating during most of that period. Approximately 10 years ago I started an online service assisting owners of Classic, Vintage, and Muscle cars to sell their vehicles without them leaving the garage. These are private individual owners who do not want to deal with the public and all the endless phone calls, “Tire kickersâ€, and other nonsense that goes on when trying to sell a car. They just want someone to sell it!! References can be provided upon request. Feel free to call me at 410-937-0719 Thank you J.D.
