Description of 1967 Austin FX4D

This is a righthand drive London Taxi that was on the road up until 3 years ago. It seats 7. there are 2 seats up front instead of the usual 1. there is a big bench seat in the back with 2 jumpseats and lots of room. There is a plexiglass sliding divider between the front and back. In the past 5 years the brake lines and brake cylinders have been replaced as well as the wheel cylinders. The clutch cylinder has been replaced. I added a second battery to assist in starting. there is also an inline block heater. if the engine is cold it is a hard start. i suspect that the glow plugs aren't up to par and if they were it would start easier but i have not investigated that. When the engine is warm it starts right up. There is a heater in the front and a separate heater in the back. the back heater core leaks and is out of the car in need of a rebuild. There is a decent trunk spacewise. The TAXI light on the roof lights up and looks good. Odometer/Speedometer is broken. Top speed seems to be about 60-65 but 50-55 is comfortable. The exhaust system leaks. Great project car and Unique! The Taxi has not been started in two years. This Taxi has rust on the panels and some on the body. This is a fun car to drive and a good family car. it was purchased in Detroit and driven to upstate NY in 2006 and since then was driven from NY to Southern Indiana. Used as a daily driver off and on. a real head turner. Most parts are available through KIP Motors in Texas and they are very friendly and helpful. There are very few of these in the U. S. Please ask me any questions.
