Description of 1968 BMW Other |
1968 BMW Glas 3000GT Built from September of 1967 to May of 1968 this is one of only 389 produced for use in Europe, ery rare to see one in the USA. If anyone has serial number records please let me know. Only BMW sold in last fifty years with BMW badging but without the "Kidney Grilles" This amazing car has just been acquired from an estate. I tried to purchase this car on numerous occasions for over 20 years. The interior is still intact but the Texas sun cooked the leather seat coverings. Please note the photo of the bottom side of the seat, extremely clean and the seat adjusters are free. The door and trim panels are complete as well and still installed and the chrome trim pieces are nice. No need to chase rare spare interior parts. The console is very good as well. The dash has all it's gauges and the original Becker Grand Prix radio is still mounted just waiting to be played. The wiring is still in place including the fuse box and cover which is under the hood on the left side. The speedometer shows it has just traveled 74,615 km. The glass has no chips or cracks. It lost it's original V8 and 4 speed transmission years ago ( I found a transmission in Germany for 600 euros). If you know of a complete engine, lease contact me with the details. The original air breather for the triple carbs is with it. There are also 2 new rear pipes with correct mufflers that appear to be new. A period M30 engine was installed years ago by the previous owner but never finished connecting everything up. The bumpers disappeared in the last two or three years but are available new front and rear for less than $1,500. The original spare and the jack are still with it. The Original Frua body needs rust repairs, ground off the bottom of the drivers door and took close up photos, ee attached. Please note the photos of the outer rocker panels, he paint has flaked off but what you see is amazingly solid, oth ends of the rockers need replacement metal. The worst rusted areas seems to be where the floor attaches to the inner rocker panels with a metal "L" shaped piece of metal that will be easily fabricated (see close up photo). The center part of the floors appear to be very solid as does the main structural part of the frame, he only bad spot on the frame is about a foot long section on the right rear in front of the rear spring hanger. There is also rust on both sides at the bottom of the quarter panels behind the rear tires. The hood is rusted due to being stored standing up outside while the engine was being installed in the building and then sat on it later. The front part of the hood will need to be fabricated but at least there is a pattern. The pivot pins that attach the hood are in good shape as is the panel under the hood where they attach. The lower right lower part of the fender will also need to be fabricated with new metal and the trunk rear most lip is also bad. The estate was unable to locate the title but I filed for a new title and will have it any day. We will help arrange for shipping anywhere in the world.
