Description of 1983 BMW 3-Series

1983 BMW 320is - NICE Hennarot Driver! I am ready to part with my classic 3-series. I bought this close to 2 years ago to play around with and now am ready to pass it on to its next owner. I put a fair amount of time and dollars into it and had a lot of fun. It has been a dependable daily driver and even made an 800+ mile trip without a hitch and almost everything on this car works as it should. The engine is getting a little tired (it just turned over 200K in September) but all in all mechanically sound. Here is most of what I did… - professional repair of rust in trunk/tail light area (I have not found ANY other rust) - new trunk seal - front bumper "tuck" - got all lights working (fog. dome. trunk and instrument lights were out when purchased) - when replacing instrument lights I foil lined the area above. illumination at night is exceptional - installed new dist. cap. rotor. spark plugs and put in new high performance bavauto plug wires - brand new Rota RB 15" rims and new tires - new "unbranded magnaflow" muffler and tip professionally installed - rear brakes fixed (needed 1 wheel cylinder and new shoes) - new slave cylinder for brakes/clutch - new floormats. trunk emblem. glovebox latch. shifter boot. radiator cap etc. from bavauto - Massive stereo install! See below for more details… - made a new cover for the spare tire - tightened the straps under the Recaros and shored up the seat bottoms The negatives… - body/paint are far from perfect. but as you can tell from the pics it's a nice 50 footer - engine needs a little "wake up time" before it's really ready to drive. both when cold and when warm - engine does use some oil… it has a bit of a leak and a little smoke on start up. I add oil every month or two - there are a couple dash cracks but not too serious and they are partly "filled" so less noticable - pretty bad "star" way down in the bottom left corner of the windshield. out of line of sight - gas smell when tank is filled over 3/4 - clock does not keep time (though it actually keeps elapsed time of every drive) - carpet has some discoloration- one wheel has a spot of curb rash- the heat control lighting has been intermittent lately- front brakes may be about ready for new pads- exhaust leak by the "Y" Comes with… - all 5 original BBS basketweaves and tires - the removed A/C equipment - some original documentation including a lengthy service history for work done at Hubbard's German Auto in Eureka CA (was bought from a guy that works there) - original owners manual and a Haynes repair manual - all receipts for the work I've had done. parts. etc. - almost all the deluxe took kit Stereo… This was a mostly "old school" install. I custom modified the A/C console and covered it in leather to hold the head unit (Sony mobile ES cassette) and equalizer (Clarion). Made custom spacers to fit 5. 25" front component speakers (Clarion) and yes the glovebox still opens but NOT all the way - it is usable though. I installed a CD changer (mobile ES) under the passenger seat and Alpine 4x6 coaxial speakers in the rear deck. In the trunk I built a custom subwoofer enclosure and did a cut-through for the sub (JBL 10") to fire into the back seat. The sub box also functions as the amp rack with 2 MTX amps - a 4 channel for the front and rear speakers supplying around 65 watts/ch. rms and a 2 channel bridged for the sub with about 300 watts rms. All properly wired with good quality cabling. If you aren't interested in the stereo. write me and we could discuss some options. Other. I would be willing to deliver the car to either the SF Bay Area or the Salem Oregon area (or points in between). My reserve is reasonable. I know this isn't a $10. 00 BMW! Also. in case some of you see this I am a bimmerforums member (wurgerd9)
