Description of 1959 Buick LeSabre |
his 1959 Buick has been in the family since it was purchased new in 1959. The car has 75000 ish original miles (75363) and has been in dry storage since it was last registered in 1984. Some people would call it a barn find because it is so well preserved. It needed some transmission seals replaced and ended up sitting as a result. My brother has done a significant amount of work to get it road worthy including replacing all of the transmission gaskets and seals. He also replaced the following: Rebuilt water pump Rebuilt carb New Battery New tires Replaced the right side front hub from a 61 caddy which is a full floating axle with a tapered bearing instead of flat. Oil change Rear differential seals have been replaced. The brakes feel like they work fine Wing window mechanism fixed Body has been sanded down and is close to being ready for paint. It is so close to being on the road again. All it really needs the gas tank and lines cleaned before it is truly road worthy. It runs well from a gas can at the moment. As far as project cars go, this is practically the best condition you could hope for. All of the hard mechanical work has been done and it is almost ready for paint. All of the trim is in excellent condition. There are a few small dents in a couple of pieces of trim, but overall you can see how the low miles have kept everything nice. It is like a time capsule. The interior is all original material. I would suspect that it could be reused since the tears are at the seams. As the foam inside has deteriorated over time there is more stress at the seams when you sit on the upholstery. Besides keeping the original interior would maintain the feel of driving an old car. As far as we can tell everything is original and 100% complete down to the hubcaps. The trim is off of the car, but you can see it in the pictures. There is some surface rust from humidity in the air on the sanded body. I looked close at the common areas where you might find rust and they all look really good. If there is rust through, I would say that any area is quarter sized. It looked to me as if it just needed some sanding. The trunk and looked perfect. I couldn't see the floor very good, but what I did see had no issues. The only reason we are selling the car is because Grandpa decided that he doesn't want to put any more money into the car and no one in the family has stepped up to buy it from him. The original title was misplaced, but we just got a new one from the state. So to recap, this amazingly clean, low miles, 1959 Buick Lesabre is probably a day away from being drivable and nearly ready for your color choice. My brother and I are fielding all questions for Grandpa. Thanks, Mark 364 nailhead located in Bountiful Utah |
