Description of 1941 Buick Century |
This 1941 Buick CenturyThis was my father’s car, but he passed away before he was able to restore it. He had it converted from 6V to 12V about 7 years ago, which makes it much easier to start and to find batteries for! He also had a second electric fuel pump installed under the left rocker panel area to make it easier to get gas up to the front when starting (the toggle switch for that is under the left side of the dashboard above the parking break). The car has a 3-speed manual transmission with the gear shifter on the steering column ("3 on the tree"), and it runs nicely with plenty of power (as heavy as the car is, it can drive up a steep incline without even breaking a sweat – and gain speed doing it!). The water pump was replaced a couple of years ago, but (to the best of my knowledge) pretty much everything else on it is original. It’s a California car, so the metal is VERY solid (seriously heavy-gauge sheet metal compared to what you see today) with only minimal surface rust in some spots (see photos). The interior needs to be redone, and the paint and chrome will need some attention, but all (or nearly all) the pieces are there, so it should be a fairly easy, straight-forward project for someone with the ability and the time. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them. |
