Description of 1967 Cadillac Other |
1967 S&S Cadillac Originally built for the North Plainfield, NJ Rescue Squad. Decatur Ambulance Service in Illinois purchased in 1973. It was a frontline ambulance through 1977 when it was retired to the reserve fleet. Restoration began and was completed in 1984. The S&S was driven to many Professional Car Society International Meets between 1984 and 1999. After that it was stored in one of the company’s garages. About ten years ago a company called Precision Miniatures was seeking a 1966 S&S hightop for their already existing ’66 line of diecast replicas. The ’67 was the closest they could find and their representative spent many hours measuring and photographing the ambulance. It is now immortalized as a 1/18 scale diecast replica ambulance. They copied this car exactly down to the Hudson oxygen gauges and the Professional Car Society decal in the back window. Current mileage showing 15972. This is once over so actual is 115972. Original engine was removed and rebuilt in May-June 1984. The approximate mileage was 108000. The ambulance was completely painted red and white in June-August 1984. The original vehicle was all white. It’s mid-body was painted Omaha Orange while used in the fleet. The white is still fairly good, but the red hood and mid-body is in need of repaint. Most of the original systems work. The Cadillac “ClimaTrol” does not function, but you can turn on the front A/C. It has not been recently recharged. The gas tank was replaced by a custom made stainless steel tank. The fuel gauge does not properly work. All emergency lights and the dual battery electrical system are in good working order. It had Western mirrors while in service. They were removed during restoration. There are no outside mirrors at this time. The vehicle starts easily and runs and drives fine. It has been sitting on the same tires since 1984, so they would need replaced before highway driving. I have had a lot of fun with this ambulance. It has been to quite a few PCS meets and local parades and car shows. It is one of a few remaining S&S hightops with stainless steel tunnel lights. It is a heavy car that was built like a tank and rides like a limo. I don’t have to sell it, but it really needs to go to a new home for someone to enjoy it again.
