Description of 1994 Chevrolet Suburban

Here it is, our very own doomsday diesel built damn nearindestructible. Was originally designed for overlanding and has been seeing almost no time on the road since I bought it. Here's a list of what was originally changed/modified:
- 1997 Dodge Cummins 5.9 12v turbo-diesel engine with the Bosch fuel pump - these engines are rare, an last over 1 million miles before rebuild (they actually outlive the vehicles they're installed in), ndridiculously simple to work on or add extreme power.- FASS Titanium 125gph fuel pump/filter/water separator. In tank fuel siphon.- Silicone turbo hoses.- Optimus Yellowtop deep cycle batteries plus 2 spare batteries- Custom exhaust.- late model airbox to keep CA dmv happy.... easy to change to snorkel or aftermarket intake.- Full floating 14bolt rear with 4.10 gears/detroit locker- 2001 NV5600 6spd transmission with dual PTO- Dana 60 High Pinion front axle from 79 Ford (in other words, t's extremely robust)- Warn hubs- Allied beadlock wheels (plus one mounted spare)- New (not used) radiator, lternator, elts, ASS fuel pump- New Bilstein shocks- Rear sway bar - can remove for better ground clearance.- Custom dash with all Auto-Metergauges and center console ready for ipad mounting- HID Xenon flood lights all around- Power inverter with AC power and multi-12v outlets- Custom sliding storage and toolbox inside- Custom exo-cage / roof rack with sliders welded - not bolted to frame. (the crumple zones are whatever comes into contact with this beast)- Spare fuel and water can mounts. 1 pair mounted to custom swing out gate in back, nbsp;1 pair on roof rack.- Warn 15000 winch with flip-up license plate- PIAA lights in bumper (not wired though)
- Unmounted aluminum fuel tank and heat exchanger fuel lines for veggie power conversion. Was part of a project I never finished.
This truck was built for overlanding - long range international travel in remote locations. It was designed to keep moving in parts of the world where there are no repair shops. As you can see, t looks like it can take punishment. The mechanical build was carefully chosen to use the toughest, implest, nd most reliable upgrades. The engine is pure mechanical diesel - there are only 3 wires to the engine and no computers control anything. (Yes, t will continue to run in the event of an EMP attack, olar flares, ombie attacks, nd shopping cart mishaps in the grocery store parking lots)
The bumpers are made of thick steel and the fuel tank is reinforced, oo. No, t's notup-armored so rifle rounds can cause problems. However, othing's stopping you from mounting flamethrowers or gun turrets. You could easily mount a rocket launcher on the roof rack. Hey, e creative. This is a blank canvas and you can be the artist ofarmageddon.
Anyway, t is NOT designed for rock crawling, ff road shenanigans, r racing. You could reliably bump the power over 1000hp for several thousand $$ and give it a go - it sure would be fun to watch. Be sure to budget for additional fuel cost and tires. With the current setup, t gets great milage for it's size ~18mpg highway and can go ~650miles between fillups. Oh, nd if you really wanted to add serious HP/Torque, here's isn't anything else you can do to the drivetrain to make it stronger - it can handle way more stress. Plus, don't know themanufacturer but the previous owner said the driveshaft is aftermarket and has lifetime warranty. It won't break. Go ahead and try. :)
It's California street legal - I spent many horrible weeks making the DMV and Highway Patrol happy. Too bad for them they allowed this thing on the streets - I've watched the faces of many SoCal softies mouthingexpletives through their windshields. Shame I never got around to installing the veggie fuel system but so what, t's huge but it leaves a relatively small carbon footprint. Oh... and it's insanely fun to drive!
It does not burn or leak oil (see steering pump issue though). If fires up on the first crank every time. Since I've had it since 2012 I've put maybe 3000-5000 miles on it - it still has the same tires and plenty of tread left. The speedo/odometer wasn't working when I bought it and CA didn't require odometer reading. I'm not sure what difference it would make if I had gotten it working - a gizmo that tells you far you've gone doesn't equate to maintenance schedules... especially with this motor. If I had to estimate, 'd say the engine has 150,000miles on it... not sure about the rest of the truck. Hell, t's Frankenstein's monster truck. It cares not.
I'm selling because I don't need it. Thinking about going back to school so could use some $$
There's nothing mechanically wrong that would affect safety or drivability but here's what I think it needs and what I wanted to do to it:
- AGR Rockram system to replace the steering pump. The stock steering pump needs something beefier to handle the additional weight and size of tires. It's not critical but it needs another gasket replacement - it leaks small amounts steering fluid and needs to be topped off every couple months.
- AC Air conditioning would be awesome. It's ready to have it installed and the truck still has the dual zone AC feature. All it needs is the AC unit and custom hoses; which are cheap to have made. I think there's a company that sells a kit, oo.
- Seat cover. The previous owner is a real big guy and after years of sliding out of the truck it caused the leather to tear and rip the foam. It's not serious, ust needs a seat cover for cosmetic reasons.
- Window switches. They need replacement or loose wires fixed. All windows roll down except the drivers side. Of course the driver can roll down the passenger window but not the rear windows or driver window. The passenger can only roll their window up. The rear passengers are fine, hey can play with their windows all day long.
- Would love to have beefier leaf springs but that's just my preference. Nothing wrong with the suspension. I added the anti-roll bar and new shocks because I had a hard time getting used to the ride at first (it was my first truck). I eventually came to terms that this machine needs to run wild on crappy dirt roads, mall forests and yes, ven Fury Road.
- There's surface rust in places. I live near the ocean and salt water loves to mess stuff up. There is no serious rust damage - it just looks kinda doomsday-ish.
- One of the spindles on the gate needs to be replaced. It won't break and is still fully functional though. It just doesn't swing out smooth like it used to. No, D40 didn't help.
- The electrical system was wired in a way that my mechanic couldn't understand. This explains the new alternator - when they wired the dash to get lights to thegauges, hey left something grounded and had to replace the alternator because it failed. Now, here's a pulsing in the power that slightly fluctuates the lights at night (the alternator gauge shows it pulsing between 14-16). It must be scary for the person in front of me but doesn't affect safety ordrivability. I got used to it.
