If you want a car to drive but don't want one that's been cobbled together, his 1968 Camaro RS convertible would be a smart choice. From the matching-numbers 327 to the gorgeous Matador Red paint, his sizzling ragtop is the kind of car that more than delivers on the fun promised by its look. It's rare to find a no-stories Camaro these days, hat with all the botched restorations, obbled-together basket cases, nd resto-mods running around, ut this one is just what it appears to be. With a few signs of use and long-term ownership, t's just a clean, onest Camaro convertible. All the indicators are there that this is a real RS, lthough there's no way to be certain given the vagaries of the GM cowl tags in 1968. Although it was originally Rallye Green, his one sports a coat of two-stage urethane in brilliant Matador Red, hue so bright it will make your eyes hurt if you look at it too long. Workmanship is decent all around, ith no signs of any major repairs in this car's history, lthough we believe the right rear quarter is new. Yes, t's just as nice as it looks in photos. Maybe even nicer. It's not perfect, f course, ut for a high-grade driver, his Camaro has a lot to offer. And yes, he headlights work like they should! There's no car where red-on-black doesn't work, nd in Camaro's case it's a slam-dunk. With houndstooth upholstery, t has an OEM look and feel, ut there's a distinct twist in the handsome buckets that will make folks at car shows do a double-take. The upholstery is an excellent contrast to the paint, nd even the black carpets and matching center console have a very uniform look. The gauges are crisp and clear, nd it's nice to see a Camaro without a lot of add-ons inside. A newer Kenwood AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit has been fitted, ut it fits right in and all that faux wood actually looks great in the black interior. The black power top fits well and looks almost new, nd the trunk is outfitted with a correct mat that makes it look finished. The engine is this car's original, umbers-matching 327 cubic inch V8, hich, ith 210 horsepower, as plenty entertaining in purely stock form. Neatly detailed in Chevy Orange with standard painted valve covers and a single snorkel air cleaner, t's the kind of engine bay that gets appreciative glances because this is how most of them were when these were actually being driven. A TH350 3-speed automatic and a set of relatively tall gears in the 10-bolt out back make this a relaxed cruiser on the highway, here you can enjoy the burble of the V8 and still get reasonably good gas mileage. The exhaust system is new and the underside is finished in satin black which hides nothing and looks good. Rally wheels would've been original equipment on the Camaro, nd wear 215/70/14 Firestone radials. So if a clean, onest, earing red Camaro has been on your wish list, e can recommend this one with confidence.
