Description of 1977 Chevrolet Corvette |
OPTIONS: L48 350 CI engine Automatic transmission Cold air conditioning Power windows Power steering Power brakes Telescopic and tilt steering wheel Leather seats HISTORY: It would be very hard to ever find a 38 year old car with a better history. It's never been wrecked and has had excellent storage and maintenance. The previous owner said that at around 75K miles it had developed oil leaks. He decided it was time to have the original engine and transmission overhauled with the emphasis on stopping oil leaks. It has no oil leaks and runs perfectly! At about 80K miles he had a rebuilt TH200-R4 overdrive transmission which makes highway driving more comfortable and efficient. The original turbo 350 goes with the car. I was only able to buy the car because there was smoke in the building where the car was stored. He thought the smell would never go away but with removing and cleaning the interior the smell is gone. WHAT I'VE DONE: The car was wearing it's original paint when I bought it. It was decent but as a restoration specialist I didn't like the many chips and factory imperfections in the paint and body. Quite honestly the factory did a lousy job painting these Corvettes back then. To improve the body and paint to match the high quality of the rest of the car I block sanded many of the ripples and imperfections then applied 4 coats of single stage urethane in the original code 66 Corvette Orange. I the went through the lengthy process of wet sanding with 1000, 500, hen 2000 paper. It is buffed to a glass finish and has never had any cracks. Single stage urethane is much more durable than clear coat. I didn't plan to ever sell it. Mechanically I've only had to change the oil and battery and add one can of R12 freon. CONDITION: It couldn't start run and drive any better. It's very solid and tight with few if any rattles. All the accessories and gauges work properly (including the clock!). The vacuum headlights do open and close slowly. The AC is cold and the radio and wipers work. I do have the original air cleaner top and radio that were boxed up by the previous owner many years ago. The Firestone radial tires are like new. There are some minor imperfections in the paint that didn't wet sand and buff out but they are very hard to see. My mechanic couldn't find any yesterday when challenged. The car gets lots of very good compliments at car shows. CLOSING: This must be one of the nicest C3s in original condition except one repaint. I have hung on to it all these years because I have loved it's color and condition. This quality of this paint job today would cost around $10,000. My reserve isn't much higher. This car will likely be a great investment as the C3s are starting to come on in popularity. The car is available for inspection any time. I've sent cars to many places including the US, urope, nd Australia. We still have a 100% rating. The buyer must make the arrangements for picking up or shipping. I won't sell the car before the auction ends but will be glad to answer any other questions by phone, text, r email. Thanks for looking! Jon 620-224-3437 |
