His aggressive design team pushed to have a smaller, ore economical car to compete with imports such as the Volkswagen Beetle and sporty Porsche 356. Few American manufactures were building a compact vehicle in the 1950's, o this venture was unique for Chevrolet. The concept was built upon a first ever Fisher uni-body chassis, ear mounted air-cooled aluminum 6 cylinder engine, -wheel independent suspension, ow profile wheels, nd a great variety of platform models! It hit the showrooms with huge success in 1960 and became the Motor Trend's "Car of the Year!" By 1962, fter swift showroom sales, hevrolet introduced a Monza Spyder performance option for the coupe and convertible models. This Spyder package provided a Turbo-charged engine, ulti-cluster instrumentation with dash tachometer, ntake manifold pressure and cylinder head temperature gauges, s well as special Spyder body emblems! We are extremely excited to offer this highly optioned 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 900 Spyder Convertible. This Spyder is fitted with that year's highest output engine offering of a 145ci horizontally posed, urbo-charged, ll aluminum YR-coded 6 cylinder engine producing 150 horsepower and 210 ft. lb of torque! Our example is further mated to an optional 4-speed manual transmission and factory installed 3.55 Posi-Traction rear end! This exceptional and virtually perfectly solid example hails from sunny, outhern California pampered from new showing just 67,764 miles! The story of this vehicle was stated to have originally sold to a Chevrolet Corvair engineer who maintained ownership though the mid 1990's. It wore California black plate registration #402 TRP. It completed a professional restoration using period correct acrylic lacquer paint in the original color of Monaco Blue Metallic (code 914) returning it to show quality condition receiving 97/100 points during judging. It then sold for the first time in 1995 already restored to a collector in Sonoma County, enwood, A. He enthusiastically enjoyed the car in the wine county for the next 9 years. It traded hands to another Corvair enthusiast residing in Alamo, A through approximately 2005. That is when it made the trip to White Pigeon, I with about 65,500 on the odometer and stayed for the next 10 years. It has been meticulously maintained both mechanically and cosmetically! It continues to start with utter ease, un and drive with perfect road feedback, nd all features & safety items remain 100% fully functional! Only 4 owners have been lucky enough to sit behind the wheel! Finding cars of this caliber is exceptionally challenging, specially this highly optioned.
