Description of 1976 Chevrolet Suburban |
1976 Chevrolet Suburban C20 My neighbor purchased this vehicle new from C&D Chevrolet in Mount Gilead, hio on April 13 of 1976 at a cost of $8123.00 and I purchased it in July of 2015 . It was stored in a building for quite some time. It has a 350 CI engine with a 4 barrel Quadrajet carb. We got it running with little effort and ran some new gas through the system...motor sounds good. The valve cover gaskets need replaced. The front brakes were stuck, o we installed new front brake hoses, reman calipers, eman master cylinder and Raybestos brake pads. The Turbo 350 transmission was a little low on fluid...but filled it to the cold level and it crisply snapped into gear. The outside body and chrome molding is impressive for an Ohio vehicle. Owners manual and some service records are in the glove box. When I drove it to my shop, t brought back memories of when they used to build solid and simple vehicles. The ride was nothing like what is on the road today. The maroon interior has the usual fading on the door panels and cracks on the dash pad. The front seat had a heavy cover, he second row seats were normally folded down and the back seat was removed...which explains the original condition of the seat material shown in the photos. If you fold down the second row of seats and remove the third seat you have a lot of level floor space. The headliner is sagging, ut is in 1 piece. The AM radio works but the AC does not. The exterior color is listed as Rosedale Red with Cream center. The underside of the body does show decay in spots. I tried to show the worst in the photos. It still has the original brake lines. The full float 3/4 ton rear end has 13" brake drums. Fairly new Courser R/D 9.50-16.5 tires on 8 lug rims. The spare is a Uniroyal 16.5. It does have a new gas tank. Power rear window will work with the interior switch next to the ash tray and occasionally with the key in the tailgate. The tailgate hinges have been modified for some reason and the tailgate spring looks like it does not hit where it should to assist in closing (tailgate is heavy to close). 2" receiver hitch with brake control(I unhooked the brake line at the master cylinder) This vintage machine has a lot of potential and I do not want to part it out. I would like to sell it to someone who appreciates the old trucks and wants to make it like new again. I have not polished anything on the outside or cleaned the interior.
