Description of 1960 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 |
In 1969 a young family drove this car from Illinois to Northern Michigan to visit family. While there the husband decided to buy a brand new car and the Bel Air was parked in a 1 car garage on the family property. There it sat until I bought it last year. I had been looking for an original early 60s GM car to air bag and this one fit the bill. However, with three little boys and a new camper, and several other cars to play with, Tinker Bel (as I call it) needs to find a new home. Pretty much everything you see, with the exception of the 1959 hubcaps, is original to the car. The original paint the original glass, original interior, etc. The glass is good all around. I have not had this car up on the hoist as the arms on my lift werent long enough to catch the x frame. However, I have been under the car on jack stands and I did not see any bad spots in the frame. The underside of the car looks like a typical car that has been sitting since 69 but it appears good. There is a hole in the drivers side floor board, but to my knowledge its the only hole in the floorboards. There are two holes in the trunk, which I tried to get pics of. The worst spots on the car are above the headlights, as can be seen in the pics, and the passenger side rear quarter panel. There is rust here and there, like the corners of the doors, and if you look at the paint up close, you can see that the paint is "checkered" with spots of surface rust and the original paint. It is missing one bumper valance on the drivers side. The chrome is pitted and there are dings in the trim, but overall it all works for this car. This is a cool car to just leave as is or maybe due some minor body work to and just drive. The rockers appear to be solid. The interior is like a time capsule. The seats still have seat covers on them which have never been removed. There is a fan in the back window probably for defrosting?? There is a large rubber matte across the rear floorboards and it has a rear speaker and fader. The headliner does have a couple of rips in it. The dash pad has a hole about the size of a dime on the passenger side. There are rips in the seat covers, but I have no idea what the seats are like underneath. The covers are put on with hog rings like a regular seat cover. The 235 original 235 6 cyl runs when gas is poured into the carb. The fuel system will need to be cleaned out. The car has no brakes and I would imagine the entire brake system will need to be gone through, but the car does roll and the brakes are not froze up on it. Please review the pics closely as its impossible to describe every single flaw of this car. I do have an IL title from the last title transfer in 1965. I bought this car from the widow of the previous owner. Car is being sold as is. I would encourage anyone serious about the car to view it in person. |
