Description of 1968 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 |
Up for bids is this sharp '68 Bel Air wagon. A western car forthe majority of it's life, about 3-4 years ago ithad all new drivetrain, paint, chrome and interior. Road proven with about 4000 miles since the build, the car is running a strong 400ci motor with a TH350 transmission, disc brakes up front and Air-Ride suspension on all four corners.
The wagon was repainted in its original color of Teal Blue Poly (Code LL). The paint is to good driver quality standards, it's not $30,000 Ridler Award paint but still pretty darn nice. Color sanding would bring it up even a level more but as it sits it's nice paint that you'd be proud to show. I'm a little picky about paint and there's 2 flaws that I've noticed: Where the roof rack mounting points were filled in you can see some subtle surface shrinkage if the light is just right, and if you knew where to look, most would never notice. The 2nd flaw is a small paint chip on the passenger side front door. Otherwise, that's it. There's no overspray, scratches, dings, dents or other chips - it looks very sharp. Zero rust issues with all original sheet metal and pinch welds. The 427 emblems are just for grins although some of these wagons were actually factory equipped that way. Wheels are 20" Coys in front and 22" in the rear, all 4 are flawless with no damage. All of the car's glass is in excellent overall condition with a only few small flaws (scuff, light scratch). Both bumpers were rechromed and are mint. The rear has a minor fitment issue on the driver's side that should be able to be adjusted out.
Really great looks from any angle, this wagon is definitely high on eyeball. The interior retains a stock look, it has new carpet and seats re-upholstered in the original pattern. The remainder is original and still in super condition. Desirable two spoke wheel. Gauges and controls all operate correctly with the exception of the turn signals. Rear gate window operates both off the dash and with the door key. Very nice dash with no splits. Original headliner has one small mended tear at the back otherwise it's pretty mint. Rear seat and cargo area are both very clean and the car has all new weatherstripping throughout. Few small dents in the cargo hold, overall looking good. The storage compartment holds the Air-Ride system hidden away. A full size car cover is also included. You'll definitely like the way this motor runs. Starts at the flick of the switch and just runs excellent. 10:1 compression with a mild cam, has a very streetable idle and great performance. Super wide powerband, hit the passing lane at 70, nudge the gas and it responds instantly with seamless power. The car has all new front end components, new brakes, new cooling system and a new steering box. The TH350 transmission is all new and shifts perfectly. Recent alignment, it tracks straight and brakes straight. Great exhaust note. Just a really strong running car. Nice attention to detail throughout the engine bay, lots of time spent here dialing things in. Very solid undercarriage, no rattle-can black covering things up. What you see is what you get and what you're looking at are original 48 year old floorpans and rockers that are still looking great.
