Description of 1960 Chevrolet Corvette |
1960 Corvette. Dark Red, Red interior. White Coves. Original colors were Roman Red per the markings found during restoration. Non-matching 327. We bought this car totally disassembled and in boxes in the late ‘80s and then stored it for another 10 years. We reassembled and restored it in 1997/98. Less than 1000 miles on the car since restoration. It has been stored in a dry climate controlled garage for the last 18 years, with very little driving to a few car shows and parades. The car is in great condition and a fun driver that gets a lot of attention. I don’t drive it enough. It needs to be driven more to keep it tuned and running well. Interior is all new from the restoration and still looks brand new. All interior is top quality Al Knoch materials. New seat springs, cushions and covers. Seat frames were sand blasted and painted. New carpet and dash pad installed. New door panels, kick panels and sun visors. New dash wiring harness installed. All gages are original and working. The tachometer is functional but not currently hooked up. Soft top frame has been restored and is rust free. The soft top fabric has not been stretched over the frame. It is still in the box. A newer Corvette AM/FM radio and speaker are in the car. Original Wonderbar radio and speaker are included. Paint is in good shape and is driver quality. There are a few minor blemishes where the paint has been touched up. They are small, less than the size of a dime. Shines nice and this color gets a lot of attention at the shows. All chrome and stainless steel have been polished and look very good. Some pitting on the door pillars. Bumpers and front grill look great and are original condition. The lower cove trim pieces are missing from the car. I might have them in a box, but not sure anymore. All other chrome and stainless pieces are in place on the car. Side windows are original and in great shape. Windshield and rubber seals were replaced when the restoration was done. Removable hard top available to the winner, but not included in this auction. I believe it is from a ’57 or ’58. Engine is a 327 NOM. It runs strong. The engine starts right up and runs well. I believe the 4-speed trans is original but I do not have the numbers from when we restored the car. Assume it is not original. Plenty of power and great sound from the engine and exhaust. The engine bay is dirty from sitting. The car could use a tune up and more regular use, but it’s a great starting point for you to enjoy driving. New engine bay wiring harness installed during the restoration. A custom Ignition kill-switch was added for anti-theft. Frame is solid, cleaned and painted during the restoration. The rear cross bar is solid where most have rusted. New exhaust installed from manifolds back during the restoration. Original drum brakes. We replaced the brake lines and wear items during the restoration but it’s been so long and the car has been sitting that I would not trust the brakes as is. That is the one area I think needs a little attention to make the car road worthy right now. The rear end of the body seems to sag a little from sitting. No rubbing but the rear suspension may need some attention down the road. Tires and Cragar rims are virtually brand new with less than 1000 miles on them. I have seen incomplete 57-62 Vettes without their drive train selling for $30K. Numbers matching show cars bring at least $70K to over $100K. This car is a deal for someone that wants a solid driver that they can put a little work into and not be afraid to drive it. Car is listed for sale outside ebay, so if it sells there I reserve the right to pull from ebay. Must sell this fall. I will assist with coordinating shipping, which is paid for by the buyer. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. |
