It, along with the Mustang started the "Pony Car" revolution in the mid '60's; the heyday of the muscle car. Before they came along, most hi-performance cars were heavy full size or intermediates with big engines. And although G.T.O.’s, SS Chevelles 440 Road Runners and GS Buick’s were certainly more than capable of handling themselves on the street and strip, the introduction of the Camaro ushered in a new generation of a smaller, lighter and more agile muscle car. And with the Z/28 came the ultimate in performance and handling! The car was developed to contend for the Sports Car Club Of America (SCCA) Trans Am racing series along with the Pontiac Firebird and Dodge Challenger. The engine size was limited to 5.0 liters. By combining the block of the 327 with the crankshaft of the 283, the 302ci size was achieved and that was what came with the Z/28. It was a solid lifer ‘Wolf in Sheep’s clothing” unit that was conservatively (and laughably) underrated at 290hp. It featured solid lifters and a huge Holley carb among other performance items. Production that first year was a mere 602 units which was probably due to the fact that most of the buying public didn’t even know it existed. However, by ’68 the Z/28 had become a separate model all together and people started catching on to what this beast really was! And when the slightly revised body of the ‘69’s were introduced, the Z/28 became a certified Superstar!! And the rest is history . . . This stunning Z/28 has been completely and correctly restored, with the smog equipment still in place.. It's been certified with a MacNeish Report and is documented with the Owner's Kit, including the Protect-O-Plate. Options include Tilt steering column, N34 wood grained steering wheel, Z87 Custom interior, Cowl Induction hood and AM radio. This is one of the nicest Z/28's we've had in stock and it runs and drives as good as it looks! Do not wait to bid, or to make an offer, on this super clean Z28, as it is also available for sale in our showroom and will move fast.
