Up for auction is a 1971 Bridgehampton Blue Chevrolet Corvette convertible. The car is optioned with a four speed manual transmission, power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. If you're looking for an early C3 convertible to drive, this is the car for you. Don't get me wrong, like any 46 year old car, it comes with with some wrinkles and warts, but it runs well and is a lot of fun to drive. Here's more about the car:- The soft top is in very good condition. The rear window shows little to no issues. It may have been replaced by the previous owner. It looks and works great, and goes up and down easily;
- The power steering and power brakes work well, with little play in the steering and brakes there when you hit them;
- The headlights operate, go up and down, as expected;
- The windshield wiper cowl and wipers operate as expected;
- The power windows operate as expected (although a little slow);
- The tires have plenty of tread on them.
Here's more about the warts and wrinkles:- The engine is not original and was in the car when I purchased it. It's a GM 350/290 with 3,465 miles on it;
- The paint was sold to me as original and shows some wear;
- The air conditioner is in the car but is not hooked up;
- The interior has some cracks in the vinyl;
- All the guages work as expected, with the exception of the clock (what's with Corvettes and their clocks?)
- The radio is not original, but works and is smart phone capable.
Here is a list of improvements I've made in the last six months:- Exhaust system replacement from manifolds rearward (it was leaking);
- Brake servicing including new power brake booster and a new master cylinder;
- New parking brake system (the old one was seized);
- Power steering service including a new power steering slave and gear box;
- A new tachometer (the old one was broken);
- Tune up including new spark plugs, air filter (K&N), wire set, fuel filter, distributor cap, distributor rotor and PCV valve;
- New Battery and Battery Tender wired to battery for insured charging after stretches of not being used;
- Headlight vacuum servicing to repair leaks in system;
- New gas tank (the old one was leaking);
- New wiper blades;
- All work was done by Long Hill Auto in Millington, NJ;
- New console cushion.
The car is a lot of fun to drive and gets a lot of looks. I've frequently taken it on the highway for long trips. Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of a home improvement project that I have to fund. Contact me if you'd like to see and drive the car in person. Again, if you're looking for an early C3 convertible to drive and have fun with, this is the car for you.
