Description of 1961 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 |
Up for auction is our beautiful all original 61 Bel Air sedan. This car was sold new in western Nebraska and was only in service for several years before it was parked inside the original owners garage, where it sat for nearly 50 years. When this time capsule was discovered about 3 years ago the odometer reading was only 58,000 miles. The car was brought to Colorado where it underwent a full mechanical check; the engine was flushed with all new fluids and filters, resealed, all new ignition tune-up items, the carburetor was replaced, all new hoses and clamps, radiator was boiled out and new coolant, new fuel pump and water pump. The fuel system was completely flushed and all rubber lines replaced and a new sending unit. The brake system was also completely rebuilt with new drums, brake linings, hoses, hardware, master cylinder and all of the fluid flushed. New battery and cables were installed. The original wheels were powder coated gloss black and new radial white wall tires were put on. After all of this was completed and thousands of dollars were spent it was BACK ON THE ROAD! And I will say this car runs and drives like an absolute dream. The engine is tight and super smooth with no smoke or odd noises. The Power Glide automatic is also quiet and smooth shifting. The brakes work perfectly as expected being all new. As you drive the car it has a very solid and quiet feel. Going over rail road tracks its SOLID with absolutely no rattles. We have put 700 miles on the car and its very reliable and fun! The exterior of this car is stunning. The paint is original and in super condition especially being black. I think its pretty rare for a 61 Bel Air to be an original black car, I've never seen another one like it. There are no patch panels or rust bubbles anywhere on this car. The lower fenders are perfect! The drivers rear door has been painted, but it was done when the car was pretty new and is Lacquer like the rest of the car. Matches good, but has some lacquer checking. Otherwise the car is all original paint and is beautiful. The brightwork is all original and super nice. It has GM, dealer installed front grill guard and rear bumper guards, all are perfect. All original glass that is pit free and nearly flawless. Inside the trunk is all original and perfect (not a single rust spot). The spare is a very old bias ply whitewall tire with all of the original jack hardware. The interior of this car is amazing. The seats were covered in dealer installed clear plastic. I would have left them on, but they were yellowed and starting to tear apart. When I removed them, I uncovered the nicest original seats I have ever seen! They look like their brand new. The door panels are original and look perfect (drivers arm rest has a small elbow wear spot). The headliner is original and perfect. The carpet is new because the rubber/carpet flooring was splitting. I used correct loop carpeting that was custom made for the car with "Bel Air" script floor mats. The dash in this car shows almost no wear, the dash pad is perfect, all of the gauges are crisp and clean, the controls and switches are all working and feel like new. Everything on and inside this car works perfect; lights, horn, wipers, turn signals, hi-low beam, speedo, gauge function, etc etc... Inside the glove compartment is all of its original owners manuals, warranty booklet, some old service pamphlets, original keys, a Nebraska road map and some super old napkins from the original owners favorite drive-inns. When I say this car is a time Capsule....I mean it. When sitting in the car and the AM radio comes on with some oldies and you pull away, it feels like your living in 61' all over again. The undercarriage is clean and rust free. The frame and suspension have many of its original paint marking and the floors are still red oxide with only the factory undercoating. If you are looking for a SURVIVOR old Chevrolet that is fun to drive and looks great in you're garage then this is the car for you. If this was a 2-door or a convertible it would be at least A $50,000 dollar car. This car is affordable and a sound investment. I have been a ebay member since 2000 and have 100% feedback.
