Description of 1966 Chevrolet C-10 Custom Deluxe

Please do not bid yet. I purposely set the starting bid way too high. As you read this brief message I am still composing the written portion of my description. If there are bids I am unable to add detailed and desirable information to the auction. I will be finished within the next few hours. Once the write-up is complete I will re-set the opening bid to $100 and run the auction as NO RESERVE. The photo layout is 100% done and tells most of the story. In a nutshell. it is one of the best Originals I've found. Interior and exterior show their age and originality proudly. Mechanically she's a sweetheart. I appreciate your understanding. The written information will be worth the wait. Enjoy the picture display- DAVE-Highly optioned--C10 Custom Panoramic Cab--Factory tinted glass. radio. gauges and heater--Deluxe trim package (appearance group) with cloth seat--Optional 292 cubic inch 6 cylinder- My attraction and appreciation for true "Survivor" cars and trucks is beyond question. They tell their stories with a level of honesty that restored vehicles just can't. Original happens once and cannot be replicated. 30. 40 and 50 years of existence with various degrees of use and exposure to the elements (even if life was spent in a mild climate) can't be copied or recreated in a paint booth. Even though my collection consists of some pretty neat cars. this Chev quickly became one of my favorites. I enjoy driving it and always have a big grin on my face. The originality of this truck is just amazing. In the same family since new and never abused. Normal. light duty use only. Original paint and interior are in impressive 49 year old condition and I would never change them. never! The original condition of the truck is it's biggest positive. They can't be found like this anymore. Special ordered with the optional 292c. u. 6 cylinder. The assembly line build sheet is perfectly preserved behind the seat. I didn't dare attempt to remove it. All of the body panels are extremely straight. even the bedsides. and there are no abuses of bondo or other fillers. Only the rockers have been repaired. The exterior has light rust is some of the typical places but that only add's to her awesome appearance and charm. The factory light green paint has excellent patina. The white on the roof was redone years ago. otherwise the finish is original. The interior is actually in good shape and is 100% original. Again. I wouldn't change a thing. Mechanically she's a sweetheart! Very tight and an absolute pleasure to drive. The motor runs like a watch and the manual 3-speed on the tree transmission shifts perfectly. Brakes. clutch and steering are sound and the truck doesn't even rattle or squeak. I would drive her anywhere. There's the general run-down. For those of you that are even more curious I will continue to provide written details under many of the upcoming photos. All of my eBay experiences have been enjoyable over the years as I've sold members of my collection. I'm grateful for the kind words and compliments I've received. My opinions have guided me well and I stand behind them but please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions and observations and they may differ from your own. I welcome showing my Truck in person to anyone with genuine interest. I live very near the Portland Oregon Airport and would gladly pick you up. Each photo shows the Truck clearly and accurately from as many angles as I could think of. It is my intention to make this as close to you seeing and touching the it for yourself as possible. Feel free to click on the "ask a question" link here in the auction and I will respond to all polite questions. Phone calls are great too. My telephone number is 503-575-0404 and calls between 8AM and 9PM Pacific time are just fine. My auction runs for 7 days and is scheduled to end on Monday evening. the 2nd of March at 7:30PM Pacific. I reserve the right to end my auction early in the event I'm contacted and accept a genuine offer and my truck becomes no longer available. *If you are outside of the U. S. or Canada. PLEASE contact me to confirm your bidding activity as genuine. *Everyone. please be sure to read my terms of sale located near the bottom of this screen. I'm a reasonable and kindhearted person but I will not bend on these basic terms unless previously discussed during the auction. A little communication goes a long way. NO RESERVE AUCTIONI did not set a reserve price on my Custom Deluxe. All that I ask in return is for your bids to be real and your intent to purchase be sincere. I took every picture you're about to see just a few days before this auction started. No photo has been altered or enhanced in any way. This is my Truck and these pictures are true to her in-person appearance. Thanks for your time. DAVE > They are very difficult to find like this. Originally came with chrome bumpers front and rear. The rear step bumper was added when near new. The truck has VERY few dings. Impressively straight as you look down the sides. 100% day-one factory interior. 1966 was the first year that seatbelts were standard. The build sheet is in remarkable condition trapped under the seat springs. Previous owners had 4 Peacocks roaming around. The male had a strange attachment to the Chevy. Finding him on or near the truck was a common occurrence. No. he didn't poop on it. He also liked to admire himself in the reflection of the rear window. As mentioned in the opening paragraph. rust can be found in some of the normal areas. Lower portion of the hood. the bottom of both front fenders and a little in the back corners of the doors is all that's visible. There is some surface scale around the seams of the roof but it appears to be all solid. Undersides are dry and solid as well. Both rocker panels as you open the doors and look down have the typical rust issues that plagued all of these trucks from this era. A homemade repair was performed in these areas years ago (close up photos provided down the display). The appearance of the truck is wonderful. Restorers are trying their best but you just can't replicate this. There is substitute for time. Well. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why this primer spot is on the tailgate. It was set down on the hitch ball. The tailgate is actually very nice. I know that it was popular for the old guys to install these step bumpers. They are more user-friendly but I would upgrade to a chrome bumper which is easy to do. This bumper is showing it's age. All glass is in real good shape. All deluxe side trim is in place and in good condition. A couple of very minor dings only. Again. very good shape. Both bedsides are extremely nice. I haven't found any serious rust in the roof. I didn't poke every square inch but it appears to be surface. Old guys and their CB radios. I have the 5 foot tall antenna for this mount. There is another drilled hole near the front. The steel plate is over the original wood and fits to exact dimensions. It is laying in place. I don't see any tack welds so it would be easy to remove with the assistance of a few friends obviously. The 49 year old wood slats are mostly there but they are certainly rotten after all these years. My undercarriage photos will provide a close view. The original owner did get inspired and performed a little spray can touch-up inside the bed. No harm. no foul and the color is close but this needed to be mentioned in the interest of full disclosure. Just about every panel on the truck is dent and even ding-free. A few tiny dings can be found under close scrutiny but very few. This truck was not abused and beaten. In person it's more impressive. Not a glamorous photo but it has a purpose. I snapped this pic while driving home 5 minutes after I finished taking all of the photos in this layout. I looked up and said thank you to the man upstairs for letting me finish before the rain started. Really. I did. Then. I reached down and turned the wiper switch. I had never tried them. What a sweetie! They swiped perfectly on low and high speeds. In fact. I'm pretty sure that just about everything on the truck works. All lights. gauges. heater. wipers. speedometer. etc. are functioning properly. The original radio is the only exception and is currently in-op. Coming into Downtown Portland. Driving this truck really is fun. even in the rain. Factory sun visors are also a rare option. Nothing much to point out here. The original interior is in great condition when you consider that it's almost 50 years old. The seat has never been recovered. I looked into it and the factory material is available. Although I would hesitate altering this truck much at all. redoing the seat would be okay. Several friends and even a few enthusiasts that have stopped by while my garage door was open have pressured me about selling them the steering wheel. Apparently. they are very hard to find and fairly valuable. These trucks were relatively bare bones and no frills. The trim package on this truck was about as high as you could go. Both the exterior and interior have all of their Custom Deluxe features fully intact. As stated previously. both rocker panel top sides were repaired years ago. Body fillers are present. Not a difficult job to do correctly but this needed to be shown. There is a little rust in the bottom of each door. Exceptionally clean and unmolested under the dash. And yes. the emergency brake holds tightly. I believe the mileage to be 123. 94 and counting because I still drive her. Assembled in Fremont California and sold new at a the Chevrolet dealership in Mt Vernon Washington. Always a Pacific Northwest truck. Nothing fancy but mechanically the truck is in great shape. The 292 straight-6 runs beautifully. I ran the engine block pad numbers. not just the castings (they are photo'd below) but the actual block stampings. They are F0804UH. My research determined that this is the original engine. The numbers come up year correct and the UH designates 292 6cyl for manual trans application. Not that it matters much but there you go. The original owner is no longer with us. Much of the information I have came second hand or is based on my own experience and explorations of the truck. The motor runs so well and carries such great oil pressure that I assume a rebuild was done at some time in the past. Again. just my assumptions but a large portion of my life has been spent with vintage vehicles and they rarely run. shift. drive and feel like this one. There are no ticks. misses. knocks or abnormal noises of any kind. Not even an exhaust leak. She starts easily and pulls strong. I had the complete clutch system replaced. The transmission and linkage work perfectly and go through the gears like butter. The rear end is church-quiet. Brakes. steering and suspension seem tight and sound although I have not had the need to inspect them. All 5 tires are new. She drives 100% straight down the road with one finger on the wheel without rattles. vibrations or wandering. Really. driving this truck is a joy. I will have a final service performed before I say goodbye. I trust her to go anywhere. Fuel lines. fan belt. worn hoses and anything I noticed showing wear was replaced the day after this photo was taken. There is a little typical rust here at the cowl. The popularity of original and untouched collector vehicles started to increase several years ago and everyone began to take notice. I've been on that band wagon my whole life. I love them! Thanks again-____________________________________________________________Terms of Sale: 49yr old vehicle being sold AS-IS:Please read and agree with the following:I have described my Chevrolet honestly and to the best of my ability based on over 30 years of owning and driving classic cars.
