Description of 1956 Chevrolet Other Pickups |
This 1956 Chevy 3100 Task Force, ½ ton, Stepside, Short Bed, Pickup was a project of a longtime, GM Engineer/Executive. His focus was safety, and "old school". His "restoration project" took about 3 years. It was the current color, and he was going to have it repainted, but got such positive feedback at car cruises and shows that he decided to keep it the same color. He sold it to me because of a significant health problem of a family member, and was not driving it much. Here is a narrative of what he had done, and the additional things I have added. The steering column was shortened by 4" when the CPP power steering unit was installed. This allows for the steering wheel to have good space between it and the driver. The fuel tank was removed from behind the seat, and a power driver seat from a 2009 Silverado was installed (including passenger seat). Complete new wiring from front to back. He had a 305 CID V-8 engine installed with a turbo 350 automatic transmission. An electronic ignition was installed. Here is the list of new items installed by the former owner: Gas tank and sending unit, Alternator, Motor mounts, spark plug wires, with tune up, Powder coated new steel wheels, with new, period correct hub caps, Gauge refacing kit, inside and outside rear view mirrors, 2009 Silverado seats with headrests, Floor mats and carpet, Spare tire powder coated bracket, Two horns (low and high), Dome light (not wired), Turn signal switch, Front disc brakes, Rear brake lines, seat belts, sun visors, wire harness front to back with manual (diagrams), cherry bomb mufflers, new battery and hold down bracket, Lokar shifter, shifter cable, Tie rods and tie rod ends, Under dash gauges ( all work as does original gas gauge), and interior paint and "head liner". All tires are new including the spare . During the time I have owned it I had a new speedometer kit and cable installed, stainless steel bed strips, bed walls painted, seat covers to match the exterior paint, polished aluminum step plates, complete carburetor rebuild, and Forever Sharp steering wheel. The vehicle draws a lot of attention. It is very reliable, quick and fast. It runs cool, and has very good oil pressure. The brakes are manual and steering is power. All glass is perfect, and windows roll up and down correctly. There is no radio, heater or A/C. It is not a "trailer queen" but shows very, very well. Since it is driven, it does have some minor blemishes such as minor scratched, etc. I have been keeping this in my airplane hangar, however the addition of a new larger plane forces me to sell for lack of storage space. Poor proof reading on my part. sorry for any confusion. |
