Description of 1971 Chevrolet C-10 |
Up for sale is my 1971 Chevy C-20. Truck is located in Murphysboro Illinois, 62966. I purchased the truck in Portland Oregon around ten years from a friend of mine. I actually drove it to Fairbanks Alaska before bringing it to Illinois. Truck ran great and still does. I had to rebuild the carb in Fairbanks and that was the only problem I had. Truck has a 350 engine, 350 transmission, power steering, power brakes (disc up front) Since then it has only had regular maintenance issues. I rebuilt the alternator a while back, got the brushes for free. Put a corvette starter in it, easy modification, just needed one longer bolt. It sure starts fast now! I guess it actually is a higher torque starter. I stopped driving it about 2 years ago when I got a new truck. I never drove it much anyway. I always start it every once in a while, usually every 2 weeks. I never drove it in snow or when I thought it could possibly get salt on it. Nevertheless it does have the typical rust common to these trucks. Good news is its not that bad yet and can easily be saved. I have sprayed the rust spots with fluid film to stop rust from spreading. I unfortunately just don't have the time or money to do anything with the truck. I have kept it for the last 2 years because I hate to part with it. The truck runs great. I'm pretty sure the engine was rebuilt before my friend had it. My friend put a lot of money in it. I know he had the transmission rebuilt, new exhaust, and brakes, among other things. I actually have a maintance book for it that goes back to 1981, when the truck had 53,421 miles. A few of the highlights: 4-20-83 Paint job Sept. 1986 108,719 Front steering box, idler arm, rear wheel bearings June 7, 1987 113,279 New transmission July 23, 1996 153,876 Crankshaft, heads timing chain and gear I just found the receipt for the transmission. It was replaced in October 2005. New converter also. It says milage 90723. The odometer reads 23406 now so I'm pretty sure the actual mileage is 223406. It was dripping oil, I'm pretty sure it was just the valve covers. I just fixed that but haven't driven it so I'm not 100% sure. I also just changed the oil and put a new fuel filter on it. Points, cap, rotor, and condenser are new also. Should be ready to go. The tires still have some tread but are old so I wouldn't trust them to make it back to Alaska but that is just me. They hold air and look better than most of the tires I saw on the used trucks when I was shopping. Just keep in mind they are over 10 years old. The last trip I did in the truck was over 2 years ago when I drove it about 3 hours away to Missouri for a canoe trip. The seat could use some help. I didn't want to just put a new cover on it, but I would were I to start driving it again, or put a later model seat into it. I would also put later model rims on it. Pick up some used rims and tires on craigslist, I'm pretty sure any 8 lug should fit except later model (after 2006?) Chevy should fit. The brakes are good except for the brake booster. It hasn't worked since I've owned the truck. It didn't bother me, reminded me of my 67 with manual drums. I inspected and adjusted them a while back and haven't driven it since. Besides the tires I wouldn't hesitate to drive this truck back to Alaska. I wouldn't want to pay for the gas though! There is a CD player in the glove box, dash hasn't been cut. It has auxiliary port and USB as well as a remote so you don't have to reach. There are two saddle tanks with the truck. I don't know if these are factory. I have never seen them on one of these trucks before. One of them worked for my drive north which was very nice. The other had a hole. I have sine repaired the bad one. Welded in a patch where it had rusted. I never hooked them back up but it would be very easy. There is a valve on the floor inside drivers door to switch tanks. The fuel gauge doesn't work properly, only goes to around 1/4 tank when full, so just gives you an idea of whats left. Temp gauge doesn't work but I added an aftermarket. I think the wipers only had one speed working. The heater control was a bit wankey and I remember putting duct tape on the ducts. I'm sure there are some other minor issues that I can't remember. All the lights were good, even the reverse lights work! Some of the trim needs to be reattached. I have gorilla tape holding some of it on. Rust is typical, cab corners, rockers, bottom door skin. Frame and underneath are solid. There is one spot on the floor beyond the driver side rocker where the floor is bad but nothing major. The truck has its share of dents an dings, hopefully the photos show everything. I welcome all inspections. I can be reached at 6183036505. Please look closely at all of the photos. I will require the winning bidder to pay a $500 deposit via paypal with the remainder to be paid by cash, cashiers check, or postal money order. Don't hesitate to ask questions. I will try to reply as fast as I can. Thanks, Dan |
