Description of 1970 Chevrolet Townsman

This is the last time this car will be listed for sale here this year; the opening bid is what I have in the car money wise, and if I can't get that, I might as well put a steering box in it, drive it to the dream cruise, and make a few grand more. You could do the same. I have too many projects.
Very rare station wagon. Of the 1965-70 wagons, production decreased every year. I have never seen another Townsman, which is a 69-70 nameplate for a Bel-Air wagon. This one is 6 passenger. It was blue originally, and is various shades of primer now. The underside is in good shape for the year. The worst of the rust is shown in the photos posted here.

Lots of the car is original, and some is not. The 350 engine block is numbers matching to the car. The heads are period-correct, although it is unknown if they are original; they look it. It has an Edelbrock air-gap intake, an 1405 Edelbrock carb, and matching Edelbrock valve covers. Later model GM alternator (higher amps). The steering wheel is not original. The trans is not original; it's a 700r4 and while it does go through all the gears, I remember having to lift off the gas to get it into OD on the freeway. It has Flowmaster 2 chamber exhaust, which is loud. The front suspension has been redone with front disc brakes swapped on. The majority of the rear suspension bushings were replaced, along with all of the shocks in the time I've owned it. The seats suck. The front bench pokes the driver with springs, even through the cover, and the rear one, while comfy, seems non-cleanable. The tailgate does open in both directions, and the power back window (only power one) did work until 2 days ago when I got it stuck open, which may just be a fuse or switch, but is a problem: the key does not work the outside lock, meaning the window has to be open to open the tailgate. But, you can fold the middle seat down and load up any 4x8 sheetgoods you want into it. The headliner is partially there.
This car was regularly driven up until about two years ago. It does start up and lot drive. It came off the road because it needs a steering gear box: steering became a suggestion. But to drive it regularly, it would also need: passenger side exhaust manifold gasket, 2 front tires (rears are not old and have almost no mileage on them), probably a radio, a new battery, and some love. If you wanted it to be nice, it should be restored.
Feel free to ask any questions you'd like, or set up a time to come look at it. A bid on this auction is considered a legal agreement to purchase the car, and there is no reserve here, so if you bid on it, and you are the highest bidder at the end, you are the new owner. If you're having it shipped, as opposed to picking it up with a trailer yourself, I will be cooperative with that. 500$ deposit is due within the first 24 hours, and the balance, due via paypal or in cash, is due within 7 days of the completion of the auction.
