Title
"Richard Childress Racing (RCR) had an interest in building performance cars for resale to the public, in tribute to their late driver Dale Earnhart Sr. Total Performance Inc. was an established Wichita company that was building performance vehicles and doing quality restoration work. In 2007 RCR and Total Performance entered into a joint venture to build 50 of these 1969 Camaro RCR Series 3 tribute cars. Some of the cars were to have "detuned" RCR built NASCAR engines with actual NASCAR race history. Whether on the track or driving down the highway, these cars were designed and built to be NASCAR inspired "streetable" race cars. Watch Barrett Jackson's Gary Bennett put one of these Series 3 cars through the paces at Hallett Speedway and listen to his comments and you will see what I mean. The video is on you tube at: https://youtu.be/MY9lAJhsJ_s. Not only does the video show this car to be a serious performance car, our #4 car may be the car in the video. The first RCR Series 3 Camaro built was appropriately numbered #3 (Earnharts Car Number) and was powered by the actual NASCAR engine driven by Dale Earnhart Sr. in the 2000 Daytona 500, the year before he was tragically killed. The car was first presented to the public at the 2007 Las Vegas SEMA show. It was then taken to the January 2008 Barrett Jackson Scotsdale Arizona Auction where it sold for $632,500. I believe this included auction fees (You can look it up). The September, 2008 Financial Crisis hit the specialty car business hard. This same #3 car was resold four years later for charity at the 2012 Barrett Jackson Scottsdale for $350,000. The crisis also ended production of the RCR Series 3 Camaro far short of the 50 originally planned. Only 6 of these Series 3 cars were built. The #1 car went to RCR. The # 2 went to Fenton Ford in Eldorado, Kansas (no longer in business). We just covered the first built #3. The # 4 car belonged to the owner of TPI. The #5 car was the only car built that had the optional Corvette LS3 Engine which included air conditioning, power steering and 6 speed transmission. With the exception of the #3's NASCAR Engine and #5's Corvette engine, The other 4 cars all had Craft Performance Engines, the 427 aluminu, 580 horsepower small block. The #6 car was numbered as #8 at the request of its Georgia buyer, I assume in honor of Dale Jr.'s car number at the time. This may cause some confusion in the future as to how many cars were actually built, but the actual number is 6. NASCAR's Clint Bowyer has made this #4 car even more special. Clint was having Total Performance do work on his custom 1949 Mercury and He was also a friend of Total Performance's owner. Clint was kind enough on one of his visits to Total Performance to autograph the dash and sunvisor of the #4 car. Our car is also set apart by its color scheme. The other 5 had the Silver vinyl accent color on the hood and down the side of the car while our car has the Charcoal vinyl accent. Since this was the personal car of Total Performance owner, he may have had his car redone with the darker color scheme to set it apart. This # 4 car is a very rare car, If you have any questions, please call or email me. Thanks for your interest Charles Carver Disclaimer. I have presented every aspect of this car as accurately and honestly as possible. My research included talking directly with individuals that were involved in the building of these cars. They are well known craftsmen in this area. One of these individuals was in a supervisory position and was extremely informative and helpful. A Craft Performance Engine representative was also informative and helpful. It was also my pleasure to have personally witnessed the building of some of these cars in 2007 and 2008 at Total Performance.
