Description of 1970 Chevrolet Corvette LS5 454 Convertible |
This is a 1970 Chevrolet Corvette LS5 454 convertible with the numbers-matching big block, terrific color combo, and plenty of fresh components from a proper restoration. It's that kind of mixture of awesome power and bright distinction that makes even Corvette people take notice. Monza Red is named after the Italian racetrack where some of the highest speeds are achieved. So it just seems appropriate to have this factory-correct hue on a true big block Corvette, right? But this convertible is much more than a bold red/orange with a cool history. This is a great year for the Stingray with more brightwork in front end, rockers, Rally wheels, and even the windshield surrounds than later C3s. So it's great to see they invested in all of this nicely during the restoration. Plus, you can tell this one was treated with care in the way the headlights rest flush and the doors close with authority. So there's nothing getting in the way of enjoying the athletic profile that includes the shark-like nose, big block hood, flared fenders, and well-integrated hint of a spoiler. The crisp tan roof has a timeless look against the exterior red. But when you truly want to look sporty nothing beats the look of the fresh black interior contrasting the bold exterior. The restoration had an eye for keeping this stock and vintage. But there are the right subtle upgrades, like the retro-style AM/FM digital tuner. And what gives the Stingray its largest appeal is that it's a true driver's machine. You get a three-spoke steering wheel that just calling out for your hands. Ahead of that is the large dual pod gauges for the speedo and tach, and just to the side are a full set of auxiliary readouts at eye-level. The absolutely classic look continues under the hood with the bold block, matching valve covers, and shining pieces like the air topper and distributor shield all radiating from within the dark engine bay. They paid attention to this one appearing stock, right down to the decals. But more than just look great, you want this because it's the mighty 454 cubic-inch LS5 V8. You'll love to know that this is the car's numbers-matching engine, and it fires up and runs like a well-respected classic should. The TH400 three-speed automatic transmission is stout enough to handle all this power, and power steering makes driving easy. Plus, the four-wheel power disc brakes and a fully independent sports suspension made this one of the best handling high-horsepower cars of its era. Complete with owner's manual, this is the Corvette with the right look, the right investments, and the right big block motor. So if you're looking for powerful droptop distinction, call today! |
