1960 CHEVY VIKING 60 TRUCK Very nice 1960 truck with 53k original miles. Bought new locally. It was owned by one family for the majority of it's years. I bought it and it had a grain box on it. The truck runs really nice. It has the original inline six cylinder with 4-speed and two speed rear. The frame and driveline were shortened so it could be used for a pickup/toy vehicle. The body is very nice and the paint is original. Interior is very nice also. I have many more pics I can send. It's a cool, unique truck. MECHANICAL I drove this truck home 15 miles after I bought it. It drove very very nice, especially considering the old tires on it. This does have independent front suspension, but I was still impressed with how good it drove. I could take my hands off the wheel at 55 and it just stayed straight and smooth. This had a grain box on it that I removed and then shortened the frame. The driveline was shortened also, the brake lines and the vacuum lines for the 2-speed rear. The frame is boxed on the inside and this truck also has an x-frame member. The x-frame is now only about 2' from a rear crossmember. The frame is very strong and probably stronger than you'd ever need. Some people choose to put a fishplate on the frame but I didn't feel it was necessary due to the boxed frame. I didn't plan to haul much with it myself either, but it should be plenty strong for whatever you want to haul. The truck still has the original rear leaf springs. They are too heavy duty for what it needs so you could swap in pickup truck springs or just take out a bunch of leaves. It drives fine on the highway but is a little rough over bumps/potholes. I only drove it down my driveway once. I mig welded the driveline and I would recommend having a driveline shop check the balance on it but if it drives fine on the highway you wouldn't need to worry about it. The 2-speed rearend works so you have 8 forward gears total. The engine runs perfect. Very smooth and quiet. No smoke, rattles, or knocks. No leaks or blowby. The transmission shifts perfect. No clutch noise. The clutch doesn't slip or jump. This has power brakes. It's the hydrovac power brakes that are on the frame. The brakes may need to be bled and/or adjusted, but they do work and the master cylinder looks newer. This truck has 20" split rims. They do sell new 19.5 steel wheels to fit this that are non-split. They also sell adapters to go to a newer style 10 lug pattern. I planned to just put new 20" tires on it and use it as-is. It may just need new rear tires because it did drive very well, but the front's are older bias ply too. I guess you can decide how you want to do it. I was eventually going to put 4x4 1-ton 8-lug axles in it but just decided to sell it, so didn't get that far. The heater, lights, wipers, parking brake, horn, and interior light works. This is radio delete. The flatbed lights are not hooked up and it has no turn signals for now. I had planned to add a tail section to the flatbed for the lights and hitch. I can possibly to that for you and hook up all the lights. We can discuss details after the auction. Overall, the truck is very mechanically sound. The truck is quiet and tight. BODY The body is exceptional for an unrestored truck that's 60 years old. The sheetmetal is very straight and no rust. There was one dent in the cab behind one door. It had been pushed back out before I got the truck and you can't really see it. The cab, doors, hood, steps, etc. etc. are very clean and dry. The glass is nice. Doors shut good. The truck is quiet driving down the road. This has a nice 8x10' flatbed on it. I just sprayed the flatbed with raptor, which is a very strong bedliner coating. It is available everywhere, if you want to add a tail piece to the flatbed an spray it to match. I could possibly do that work for you, and I can discuss that with the winning bidder. Overall, you'd be hard pressed to find a vintage truck of this era/model with a nicer body. The hood and fenders have fading that the doors don't really have. I think the truck was probably parked in a shed where the front got some sun. The paint on the doors matches and there is no sign of any repaint ever. No overspray in the jams or on the door seal. I don't believe anything has ever been painted or repaired on the body. INTERIOR The interior in these truck is pretty utilitarian and minimal, but it is in nice shape. It still has a "new car" smell. The seat had a seat cover on it when I bought the truck. The seat cover was probably put on when new, and was done by an upholsterer. The seat is not perfect but very nice and the springs and foam are nice. The floormat is nice. The dash area and all of the metal is in very nice shape. The door shut fine. The truck is pretty quiet driving down the highway. The heater and selector works. This is a really cool old truck. I planned a 4x4 conversion and some 35-37" tires that fit nicely in these larger fenderwells. I guess you can do the truck however you want. I think it looks pretty cool as-is, but it kind of needs the tail section on the flatbed to look finished. I put some chrome lug nut covers on the wheels just to see what they look like and they look pretty cool. The wheels were primered and sprayed with satin wheel paint. Thanks, and happy bidding.
