Great Lakes Classic CarsProudly offers atNO RESERVEthis,,,1948 Chevrolet FleetmasterDeluxe SedanChevrolet did what they could with what they had and made a concerted effort to release a new post war car that truly looked new. While it shares similarities with its pre-war counterpart the Chevrolet Master Deluxe, there was no doubt that the Fleetmaster took on a more modern look all of its own! This 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster is a rare example of a car from a bygone era. The Series DK Fleetmaster was introduced as the top trim level model in the 1946 thru 1948 Chevrolet range. The Fleetmaster, which replaced the prewar Chevrolet Special Deluxe, is powered by a 216.5 cu in (3.5 L) Straight-six engine driving through a 3 speed manual transmission.Transmission is a synchromesh three speed manual column mounted.Brakes are four wheel hydraulic drum.Suspension is front independent with a semi-floating rear axle.Wheelbase is 116.0 inches...overall length is 197.75 inches... width 73.4 inches...height 66.1 inches.Curb weight estimated at 3,330 lbs. Our '48 is a joy to drive and awe inspiring to look at.The car starts right up and drives down the road very well.Stability is greatly appreciated thanks to the brand new set of Coker Classics on all 4 wheels.Headlights and other vitals work as intended so don't worry about staying late at the car show or cruise night. The interior is as comfortable as is inviting; During cleaning and detailing we came across the dash sticker and we would normally remove anything that is on surface and not vehicle function related... This time we decided to leave it on there as we also proudly support the cause and were glad to see the previous owner did as well. You can remove it if you want, it's just a stick on decal.Underhood and undercarriage of this Chevy is impressively clean, unobstructed and simple. The engine bay is reminiscent of easier, less complex times. The powerhouse straight 6 packs plenty of punch to move the heavy Chevy along with distinction. The bottom side shows evidence of a maintained automobile with newer brake lines, fuel lines, and cable adjusters/hangers. Very solid with no undercoating or the typical blackening with spray paint that is commonly applied to hide greater issues. Our car is a great example of a solid survivor. The exterior of our vehicle remains mostly stock all metal with two tone paint and beautiful upgraded brushed full disc wheel covers. Popular among Hot Rodders and Puritans of the hobby. Quarter skirts are kept in the trunk should you want them on the car. We liked it without so we kept them off. They are rarely survived with these cars and should be considered a great find. The rear and front bumpers retain very good shine as does the large metal front grill. Yellow Driving Lights also adorn the jeweled front end. The interior appears original, but has subtle custom touches. The seats are finished in tan cloth, as well as the visors and matching door panels. The dash retains all original aspects, with all gauge lenses clear and is solid with very nice chrome trim. The original steering wheel is in very good condition.A few cracks which is very typical of this vintage and easily repaired. The Chevy Fleetmaster is a relatively popular collector car. From the three model years that the Chevy Fleetmaster was produced, the 1948 model was considered the best of the three. This is mainly because of the engine improvements and more ornate grille styling for the 48 models. The cars also had a reputation of being quite well built.A very nice representation of the first NEW DESIGN after the war available now.
