Description of 1963 Chevrolet Corvette

Fuel injected 1963 Corvette convertible. Meticulous. body-off. nut and bolt restoration of a very original. unhit. rustfree California car with its original engine. transmission and rearend. Multiple award winner. Bloomington Gold. NCRS Top Flight. Muscle Car and Corvette Nations Triple Diamond. Daytona Blue with dark blue interior. tan softtop. 4-speed. History: November 7. 1962 is the official production date for this Corvette. It was then shipped to Mills Chevrolet of Moline. Ill. A couple of period correct memorabilia items from Mills Chevrolet are in the glovebox. By 1965 the car was in California where it remained until it was brought back to the Midwest for restoration in 1999. For the next 10 years. it was not driven until completion of the restoration in 2009. The California black plates on the car date back to 1965. which is the earliest sticker that could be salvaged from the rear plate. The California plates have been professionally restored. and are included with the car. Exterior: -Original re-chromed bumpers. perfect show quality condition -All stainless original. professionally polished/buffed show quality -Original polished wiper arms. perfect. with correct NOS dotted Trico inserts. VERY hard to find -All emblems. badges are either original or NOS GM. no reproductions. all show quality and perfect -Roller gas door is a restored original -NOS 4-hole early style rocker moldings. very hard to find -NOS GM exhaust tips with seam. no part number as was original -NOS GM door handles -NOS GM exterior door mirror -4 original T3 headlight bulbs -NOS Guide rear tail light assembles (NOT reproductions) -NOS Guide front parking lamp assemblies. '63 only style. impossible to find. show quality -NOS GM front grill -All original '63 bumpers brackets. 3/8" thick vs. 1/4" '64-'67 -Original hood grills -Tan convertible top with correctly dated rear window. Sofltop was custom made by AL Knoch with correct tan headliner. pads. and straps -NOS rear license bezel -NOS Guide rear license lamp -All door glass is original to this car. show quality -ALL weatherstrip on the car is NOS GM -New OEM correctly dated LOF windshield without tinted band across top (correct for '63 only)-All bumper bolts are re-plated originals and have correct "M" and "TR" head markings There are absolutely no reproduction fasteners on this car anywhere. All original fasteners have been re-plated either zinc. cad or black. and are show quality. Interior: -Dash pads. visors. door panels. kick pads. deck lid trim are original. show quality -Carpet and seat covers are from Al Knoch -Console is original. re-anodized. beautiful -Original Wonderbar radio. rebuilt by Charles Sebastian. Sebastopol. CA -All gauges are original. rebuilt by Roger Scott. Corvette Instrument Service in Palm Beach Gardens. FL The dash cluster looks like jewelry. -VERY RARE TACH- The tachometer is an early '63 "buzzer” type. It is complete with wiring harness and working buzzer unit. It was also rebuilt by Roger Scott. The face of the tach has the early production style maroon/red "redline" vs the more common orange/yellow. -Interior was stripped bare of all old paint and carpet glue. and repainted as accomplished at the factory. -Seats were stripped. repainted. new burlap. backing. and foam installed. -Floor panels have the early '63 "toolbox" depressions under the seats. correctly painted body color -Rear storage area has original '63 only jack/jack handle. cover has correct stitching around carpet. bezel is cad plated as in '63 only. painted body color -Deck lid hardware is plated (not painted). Pre-restoration photos show this is how the factory did it. -NOS dark blue early '63 seat belts. There were two shades of dark blue seat belts used in '63. one was a light blue. the other dark. These are the darker version. -NOS Guide mirror -Dash and all interior painted parts are refinished in DuPont lacquer (no longer available). perfect condition and very factory original. like new. Dash panel is early '63. painted vs vinyl clad as later cars. no bezel around radio -All chrome hardware in interior is original. perfect show quality condition -All dash knobs original. show quality -The underdash area. heater box rebuilt. ductwork has been cleaned/restored. Heater box was disassembled. fan replated. door replated. new seal installed. Firewall insulation/sound deadener is new. -The only areas of the interior that were left untouched is the part of the birdcage beneath the glove box door (approximately 18") where the trim tag and VIN plate are attached . Also a two foot area under the carpet directly behind the passenger seat where the factory wrote "DK BLUE" in green crayon prior to paint. -Glove box door is restored with a new face. back is original with correct texture and rivets -Vents grills are the original. perfect -All interior stainless trim professionally polished/buffed. show quality -The steering wheel is original and has been professionally restored. -Convertible top frame stripped. painted semi-gloss black. Has correct rounded #2 cross brace. -The original keys have the "knockouts" still in place. The interior wire harness. as well as all wiring elsewhere in the car. has been replaced with Lectric Limited products. While the original harness' was in good shape. this quality restoration couldn't be trusted to some 50 year old wires. Chassis: -The frame was stripped bare and painted with a satin epoxy paint. PPG DP-90 -All original factory set-up marks. shim markings. stencils etc. were visible on the unrestored frame. and chassis components and drivetrain. They were replicated on the restored components. -Gas tank has been replaced with new Quanta tank. correct OL Anderson MFG logo. stitch weld. and St. Louis "SL" white crayon marking as found on original tank. Sending unit is NOS AC Delco unit. -All fuel lines. gas lines are new steel lines. -All flexible fuel lines and brake lines are new -The car originally had steel brake linings with the original factory installed brake drums unique to factory steel brake cars designated with a stamped "X" on drum. But. for safety purposes. NOS in the box GM brake drums and conventional NOS GM shoes were installed. -Front control arms are original '63 only without reinforcement bracket. rebuilt with new ball joints. painted gloss black. Rear control arm assemblies were rebuilt. painted gloss black. Both front and rear control arms were rebuilt by Harvey Jacobs in Pittsburgh. PA. At some time in the car's past. the right rear spindle had been replaced with a '64+ spindle. '63's were originally equipped with a slip on bearings on rear spindle. while '64-'82 cars had a press on bearing. Harvey Jacobs was able to locate NOS '63 style spindle. so both spindles are now '63 style. The only visible way to tell is to remove the hub cap and examine the part of the hub that sticks though the center of the wheel rim. The '63 assembly is different from the later '64+ style. -While the originals were in good shape. both front spindles were replaced with NOS '63 units. When the original spindles were cleaned. all the set-up paint markings (blue. white. yellow. orange) were obvious. These marking were replicated on the new spindles. -Shocks are new Delco -Park brake cables are original. perfect shape -Spare Tire tub and tray are original. perfect shape. have a sight bit of paint on outboard edges from rear muffler blackout process - Exhaust is carbon steel as original. and is the first carbon steel setup made by Corvette Central's supplier. An old set of original pipes and some NOS '63 header pipes were used for mock up. The exhaust pipes are the only thing on the chassis of the car that does not look restored. as the carbon steel develops a very thin coating of oxidation from the moisture in the air. Mufflers are painted black with an asphalt based paint similar to what was done on '63 cars. particularly the early cars. -All five wheels are the '63 only steel wheels -All four hubcaps are NOS. early frosted style There is absolutely not one pit mark anywhere on the frame. as if this car never got wet. Fiberglass underbody is cream colored with tool box depressions under the seats. exhaust pipes are correctly bent to clear the depressions. Factory job number 198 is still found in green crayon on the passenger side firewall. rear bulkhead. and on the inside of doors behind the door panels. The original "307" 13# cap fits fine. which can be difficult with a reproduction tank. It is show quality. Voltage Regulator(NOS) 1119512 dated 2J ('62 Sept) Horn Relay (NOS) "824" Coil (NOS) "091" early cars only This is an early car with a number of engine compartment features unique to early cars. -Black oil fill tube. cap. dipstick. cad plated choke tube. only chrome is vacuum tubes and fuel line from fuel pump to high pressure pump. silver fuel filter. -FI air cleaner and heavy gauge S-tube are both first design. original to the car. The FI plenum has nozzle block recesses in the casting. Expansion tank hose and wire harness is routed inboard of hood support -Valve covers. intake an FI plenum and cover have never been media blasted or painted. The original grain can be seen in the valve covers. -Engine was rebuilt by Borowski Race Enterprises in Joliet. IL -FI unit was rebuilt by Jack Podell. South Bend. IN -Starter and alternator rebuilt by John Pirkle -Washer motor/pump rebuilt by Wiper Works. Shawnee. TN -Headlight motors rebuilt by Bill Lacy. St. Louis. MO -Horns 455/456 2F2. 2J2 have been professionally rebuilt.
