Description of 1964 Chevrolet Corvette |
KELLISON J-5 2 DOOR HARDTOP - 500 ci Motor - I am the second owner - I purchased this from the original builder's trust - as a builder, he was a true professional with custom cars and collectable antique airplanes and was very meticulus with every thing that he built - he built this car from the ground up after driving to the factory and purchasing the bare fiberglass body to start with - it is titled as a 1964 Kell in Missouri and has never had a lien and has never been llisted - as a J-5, it has a little bit of a lower profile than the J-6, as it doesn't have the "B" pillar behind the seat - it has the quickly removable side glass and quarter windows and is a true 2 door hardtop, which is very unique to this car, as you can tell by the picture - all of the glass is safety glass, and not plexiglass, and can be carried in slip-covers behind the seats for quick installation - I had wanted one of these since I was young and saw one of these in the early hot rod car magazines that I looked thru at the local newsstand as I went on my paper route - I drove to Scottsdale and purchased my first Kellison appx. 20 years ago, after many conversations, and a trip to look at it, and then a trip in my bus to buy it and trailer it home - I sold it about 3 years ago to the popular Las Vegas T. V. custom car show - you might have seen it as it was red, and they further customized it and then painted it silver. This is my second Kellison and I have really enjoyed driving it - It hasn't needed anything at all - it was built as a very powerful driver, but with the largest Cadillac engine (500 cubic inches) it has as much power as you could ever need - it was built for the road, but the builder would take it to a neighborhood drag strip to gauge and test any improvements (timing, carb adjustments, etc.) as he made them. As a "used car", I have never had a low battery, car that wouldn't start, a car that died in traffic, a car that I had brake problems, air up a tire, or really any of the quick fix problems on this car that you would associate with a "used car". As far as head room, I'm appx. 5 ft.10 1/2 and I think I've still got appx. 2 in. of head room to grow ( I'm 78 years old ) - The quick release removable race car steering wheel does make it a lot easier to slide in and out - Also. the nicely chromed side pipes have been unhooked because of passengers getting burned when getting in and out - It has air shocks on the rear and louvers in the forward section between the fenders in the center of the body to help draw air across the engine (try forming louvers in fiberglass and you will appreciate some of the neat features on this car) - it also has roll bars that blend in the upholstery and LED running lights on the front around the headlights - I'm just about 20 minutes from K.C.I. airport if you want to make a trip to try the car on for size and get a better feel for the whole car and, also take a short trip around the neighborhood - I know you will be impressed - The only things that I would point out would be the steering wheel is about 1 to 2 in. over to the right to make it easier to get in and out, the passenger side windshield has a very slight rub mark from the wiper that should buff out, and the defrosters haven't got a finished grille right behind the windshield - looks to be something that the builder hadn't found or made yet - If there is any one thing that I am impressed with the most is the slip out quarter windows - I had the car for about a week before I noticed that they were removable because they blend in so good with the lines of the body - when they are out, it is a true hardtop and the body lines are smoother and more streamlined than the J-6's - it is also lower to the ground - this car is appx. 45 1/2 inches tall with appx 4 inches ground clearance - the cabin inside height is appx. 36 inches tall and 52 inches wide - the tires on the front are 215 x 60 x 16 and 26 inches tall and on the rear are 215 x 65 x 16 and 27 in. tall to get a very nice stance - If you have any other questions, please let me know - send me an email, as that is my best form of communication This is an appx 60 year old used car that is well built and taken care of and described in detail, but no 60 year old car will have warranties or guarantees of any kind, including this one - |
