Thank you. 1955 Chevrolet BelAir Station Wagon Lee Harvey Oswald Associated Vehicle as presented by. Texas Classic Cars of Dallas Worldwide Special Interest & Classic Automobile Consignment & Sales 1912 W. Mockingbird Lane Dallas. Texas. 75235 Dave at 214-213-7072 or Maris at 214-616-2317 This 1955 Chevrolet Station Wagon was recently uncovered after 33+ years in storage here in Dallas. Texas. This is the wagon that was previously owned by Mrs. Ruth Paine. Mrs. Paine was fatefully attached to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy due to the fact that Marina Nikolayevna Oswald Porter. the wife of Lee Harvey Oswald at the time. was living with her in 1963 in Irving. Texas during the time of the JFK assassination. Lee Harvey was staying in an apartment building in Oak Cliff and would regularly visit his wife. again who lived with Ruth Paine. She was at this time separated from Mr. Paine. Their marriage in shambles. Lee Harvey was trying to reconcile with Marina in the days leading up to November 22nd. 1963. Lee Harvey would travel to New Orleans. Louisiana in 1962-3. passing out his communist propaganda. Prior to this. Lee Harvey Oswald was staying in the Soviet Union. As documented by testimony after the assassination by Ruth Paine. this '55 Chevrolet BelAir Wagon was used to travel to New Orleans and picked up Lee Harvey & his belongings. which included the rifle. Unbenounced to Ruth Paine. Oswald's rifle was carefully wrapped in a brown and green blanket and placed in the back of this wagon. The Warren Commission (FBI) determined that the bundled blanket & rifle were stored in Paine's garage leading up to the fateful day of November 22nd. 1963. This photo was taken some time in 1963 in front of Ms. Ruth Paine's home in Irving. Texas. The 1954 Chevrolet BelAir in the foreground was owned by a co-worked of Lee Harvey Oswald. Mr. Buell Wesley Frazier. Mr. Frazier drove Lee Harvey to work at the Texas School Book Depository (Dealey Plaza) on the morning of November 22nd. 1963 in his '54 Chevrolet BelAir along with a curious box in the back seat that was later found out to contain Lee Harvey's Soviet-Era rifle. You can see this very 1955 Chevrolet BelAir Station Wagon in the background. Today we have this wagon on display here at Texas Classic Cars of Dallas. No one really knew that this wagon still existed. It was purchased by a neighbor of Ruth Paine's and subsequently ended up with the children of said neighbor. There is a lot of information out there that ties Lee Harvey to this station wagon leading up to the assassination day I will try to detail. Here is the man that the world would come to know and despise with the rifle that is said to have killed President Kennedy. This is the rifle. and the blanket that hid Lee Harvey Oswald's rifle. It is said that the box was put in the back seat of his friend's '54 BelAir with the rifle as Lee Harvey traveled to the School Book Depository the morning of November 22nd. 1963. Here is a photo of Ms. Ruth Paine with this infamous '55 Chevrolet Station Wagon. The Irving Hairdresser Clifton M. Shasteen was the proprietor of Clifton's Barbershop at 1321 South Storey Rd. In Irving. Texas. He testified before the Warren Commission that Oswald had his hair cut several times at the shop and that he had personally cut Oswald's hair "three or four times. " He had no doubt about this customer's identity and recalled a conversation they once had about a pair of unusual yellow shoes which Oswald was wearing. Shasteen said that Oswald told him he had got them "down in Old Mexico. " Shasteen's certainty about this man's identity is given great credence by the fact that he knew Ruth Paine by sight and had seen them together. Midway through his testimony. Shasteen was asked by Assistant Counsel Albert E. Jenner. Jr. whether Oswald had ever driven an automobile up to the shop. Shasteen replied. "He drove that there 1955. I think its a 1955. I'm sure its a 1955 Chevrolet Station Wagon. It's either blue and white or green and white. it's two-toned. I know that". There is little doubt that Shasteen was describing Ruth Paine's car. with Oswald driving it! This is a major revelation in the fact that Lee Harvey Oswald was not suppose to be able to drive. There are numerous witness accounts of Oswald driving. There was a letter written in Russian by Ruth Paine. sent to Marina Oswald. living at this time with Lee in New Orleans. It is dated August 24th. 1963. a time when Ruth was staying at the residence of Arthur Young (her husband's step-father) in Paoli. Pennsylvania. The English translation of the relevant paragraph of Lee's ability to drive reads as follows : "Lee told me that he learned a little from his uncle how to drive a car. It would be very useful for him to know how to drive. It is hard to find time for this when he works every day. " During her lengthy testimony before the Warren Commission. Ms. Paine was questioned by Assistant Counsel Albert E. Jenner. Jr. about that particular paragraph. He stated that "the Commission is very interested in the subject matter of Mr. Oswald. of Lee Oswald being able to drive a car. " There exists solid evidence that Oswald was receiving driving instructions from Ruth Paine. presumably in Ruth's own car at the time. this 1955 light green/blue Chevrolet Station Wagon. which was one of three vehicles owned by the Paines. A letter written by Ruth to her mother on Monday. October 14th. 1963. includes the following passage : "If Lee can just find work it will help so much. Meantime. I started giving him driving lessons last Sunday. If he can drive this will open up more job possibilities and more locations. " After President Kennedy's assassination. nbsp;Ruth Paine continued to use this wagon and repainted the dark green top light green to match the bottom. Remember. this was a factory two-tone color wagon that originally Neptune Green & Seamist Green. Undoubtedly Ruth Paine wanted to distance herself from Lee Harvey Oswald and his murderous act. At that time. it was known what an important piece of history that this wagon had become. It was simply transportation for the Ruth until selling it to her neighbor not long after the assassination. Sitting in a Dallas. Texas garage since 1980. this wagon is still very solid. The exterior presents all original trim and the old partial repaint commissioned by the Paine's after the assassination. This wagon was originally two-tone Neptune Green & Seamist Green (604-STL Paint Code) . now entirely light green. You can still see the green paint underneath the decades old finish. The original 265 2bbl V8 engine is intact but not running. The factory generation charging system is intact along with the factory-equipped power brakes. windshield washer reservoir and Rochester carburetor. The firewall. inner fenders and core support sheet metal is good and solid. The original color and trim identification plate is also intact as is the original VIN plate. The engine pad stamping reads as follows : 058541T55F The Trim Tag reads as follows : STYLE 55-1062DF BODY S78TRIM - 517PAINT - 604 STL This is an old registration card verifying the identification number. matching the engine. It was left in Ruth's name because the neighbor who bought the car. never changed the DMV paperwork wanting to keep the proof that it was once owned by Ruth. The car is now titled to our seller and is a clear Texas title. We can provide additional documentation proving ownership if requested. The upholstery is largely intact front to back. The dash retains its original gauges. radio and steering wheel. Here is the rear compartment area. just think the very rifle used by Lee Harvey Oswald to kill president Kennedy sat right here and traveled to Dallas. Texas. again. unbenounced to the Ruth Paine. Who would have known that something like that would happen. The old shag carpeting is disintegrating but this we decided to leave this wagon exactly as it was pulled from the garage after its lengthy storage. The Powerglide automatic transmission and power brake equipped BelAir was certainly a good vehicle for Lee Harvey Oswald to receive driving lessons with. There is another story about Lee Harvey visiting a car dealership here in Dallas. Texas just prior to the assassination and test driving a 1963 Mercury Comet Caliente. again documented in the Warren Commission with testimony from the salesman. This is your opportunity to own a piece of the JFK assassination history and his said assassin. Lee Harvey Oswald himself. The following additional photos depict the engine compartment and undercarriage. This is a very solid restoration candidate if desired. The flooring does have some rust through as does the tailgate. There is definitely corrosion damage. but this is a dry climate Dallas. Texas car. garaged for the past 34+ years. nbsp;the engine is seized up. but it is overall in good shape. The bright work is pitted throughout. The pictures really tell the story of the condition. View our 100% positive customer feedback and bid with 100% confidence.
