If you're looking for a stock Camaro we've got plenty. But if you're perhaps looking for something with a little extra something that will attract everyone's attention at shows and add a little more performance under the hood in the form of a fuel-injected big block and a 5-speed then perhaps this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible might be more to your liking. There's no escaping the incredible paint job on this Camaro which puts a cool twist on a traditional look. The red paint is miles deep and expertly applied over some very straight sheetmetal but that's only part of the story. Beautiful black SS stripes were wrapped around the nose and then you bury it all under a few coats of clear and color sand and buff it when it dries. The result is a very trick F-body with a look that everyone will recognize. Is it a real SS? Maybe but who cares at this point? Of course this car also includes the ever-popular cowl-induction hood proper SS badges and a ducktail spoiler out back as well as the blacked-out tail panel that was standard equipment on big block-equipped Camaros. Bright chrome bumpers provide contrast to all that red paint and the '68s are awesome cars due to their clean lines that were cleaner than the '69s and less busy than the '67s. This car definitely nails the Camaro performance look.Mirroring the exterior color scheme the gorgeous interior offers bright red buckets matching door panels and dash and a full set of red carpets. As a matter of fact this car originally came with code 724 red buckets so they were given new seat covers that replicate the factory pleats. A console between the seats is always a nice sight and it includes the optional auxiliary gauges just ahead of the shifter whose knob now shows five forward gears instead of four. A woodgrained steering wheel looks right in this resto-mod's brilliant interior and still offers a great view of the factory gauges. Entertainment comes via a custom AM/FM/cassette stereo and there's a brand-new black vinyl convertible top with crystal clear rear window as well as two top boots in red and black. The trunk is finished with a correct mat and proper spatter paint.Horsepower? Yep plenty of that here thanks to an Edelbrock 502 cubic inch big block with aluminum heads and a custom fuel injection system. Comp Cams supplied the roller bumpstick and there's a Mallory ignition system to light it up. Plenty of chrome gives it enough sparkle to compete with the paint job and a serpentine belt drive system ensures reliability. Check out the new dual reservoir master cylinder and power brake booster required upgrades thanks to the Baer 4-wheel disc brakes that now live underneath. And while you're under there checking things out be sure to note that there are now 5 gears in the transmission stainless long tube headers and a custom exhaust with X-pipe that sounds wicked. Floors are spotless and there's a heavy-duty cover on the 12-bolt rear end which is full of 4.10 gears on a Posi. Staggered Foose wheels are a modern twist on the classic Torque Thrust look and wear 225/45/17 front and 275/40/18 rear performance radials. So if you're tired of the same old stock Camaros perhaps this one with a slight twist on a classic look and some massive horsepower is what you need.
