The Masterpiece of the Art Deco Period Many of those who have collected classic cars. cars of the 1950s and muscle cars are just now discovering that there is a time zone from 1934 through 1938 in which all manufacturers indulged in the ‘aero’ design elements fostered by the airplanes of the day…today we call them ‘wind tunnel’ designs but back then they were known as ‘aero’ design. The whole concept was to streamline the form of cars so that the design would follow the flow of the air crossing over them. Lincoln had the Zephyr. General Motors had the Fastback design for each division and most importantly and significantly was Chrysler Corporation who had designed a car from a blank piece of paper called the Air Flow. The first ‘Air Flow’ came out in 1934 and was not only made in the Chrysler line but also in the DeSoto line. These cars were actually the very first cars to be designed in a wind tunnel. Where the DeSoto Air Flow and Chrysler Air Flow lines used a six-cylinder engine on a shorter wheelbase; the Chrysler Imperial used a long wheelbase with an 8-cylinder engine and power brakes. The Art Deco influence and streamline design set this car apart from other cars of the day and once you saw it. you never forgot it. The four-door Chrysler Imperial Air Flow design is still very impressive to this day. The Chrysler Air Flows were made from 1934 until 1937 and have garnered a high following among serious collectors. Check out the prices that Airflows of this period are getting on the auction block! Now the car that you see before you in this auction is a 1937 Chrysler Imperial Airflow C17 sedan including all the spectacular features that made Airflows an extremely advanced design. Note the aircooling design where the windshields crank open to allow a comforting breeze in motion no matter how hot it is outside. The great news is that savvy collectors are appreciating Airflows more and more everyday and this car has the potential to be a great investment not to mention the joy of ownership. Here at MissChiTown we think the Airflows are one of the most fantastic cars ever! Isn’t it wonderful to have overdrive that kicks in at 45 mph and makes driving at highway speeds of 65-70 mph a pleasure and you can drive all day long at these speeds! The seller has owned this car for a decade or more and has kept it in great running condition and has enjoyed driving it to the local car shows. The seller has told us the following about this car. They purchased the car over ten years ago and actually drove it the 450 miles home. They have kept it maintained so that they can enjoy driving it to all the local car shows where it is always well received. It is not a 100-point show car by any means but is a very dependable and enjoyable driver. The seller believes that this car has the original engine and transmission and that all the exterior chrome and trim pieces are intact. There may be some minor interior pieces that are missing so the seller has provided numerous photos of the car’s interior. exterior and underside for your perusal to ascertain the condition of the car. While reviewing the photos we realized that the seller forgot to take photos of the trunk. The seller states that the trunk is in good shape and has a good spare tire. Seller has been able to track the car’s history back through 4-5 previous owners and has come to believe that the car has lived most of its life in California. Arizona and Nevada. If you will take a look at the underside you will see that it confirms that this car has lived its life in dry states. The muffler that was added six years ago still looks like new. The seller tells us that there is some rust around the running boards. The seller cannot tell if the car was restored but the paint is not restoration quality but the seller does love the maroon on this car and gets lot of positive feedback on the color and he believes that this may have been an original Airflow color. Actual mileage unknown. Areas that the seller has replaced and/or upgraded: Hydra Vac Brake System – see photo of system in front of rear axle on underside photos in video. Muffler replaced six years ago - see photo of underside photos in video. Very important! The rear transmission seal and emergency brake was replaced a few years ago. See photo in underside photos in video. Floorboards (actually wood) replaced. Car was changed to 12 volt system. A previous owner had done some wiring on the car. Seller believes that the interior could be original (looks to be the original style) but it is very faded and has some tears. Very straight car as you can see from the photos. Seller has indicated that any history. photos. paperwork. etc. on the car that he has from his ownership and/or from previous owners will be included with the car. The sellers have truly enjoyed owning this car and have always felt that it was a safe and great driver. Again the seller has maintained the car so that he could drive the car anytime. anywhere…from the day he purchased it and drove it the 450 miles home!! The seller has done his best to provide a description and photos to give a good overall description of the condition of this car.
