Great Project!Fantastic Body!I picked this 311 up in the Yucca Valley in the California desert. The Kid I picked this up from said that his Grand Father had passed and left him a fleet of classic cars. Some restored. the others projects. He and his father Were not interested in any of the non domestic cars in the collection. So thats where I came in. I was staying with friends in Palm Desert when I saw the add for this on craigslist. The pictures posted on the add were not very conducive to any of the details that someone who collects these roadsters desirable. So I met with him in the hopes that it was a 67 1/2. It wasn't. It was a base 67 1600 beaten down by the elements of the desert and the entire engine bay and interior of the car was filled with a compaction of desert brush and trash bits that one or multiple critters had fashioned into a home. It wasn't at all what I was hoping for. But it was from what I could tell it was just about all there. All be it sun bleached and rusty. Besides that it was incredibly straight. He told me he had never seen it run and that the real shame of it was that it was in even more incredible condition but in the two years it had been parked outside of the storage unit it had really gotten beaten up. He put it out thinking someone would come by in a month or two to check it out . but nobody would make the drive out to it so it sat. At that time I had already one 2000 and two 1600's. I'm no rookie when it comes to buying Japanese metal. This thing was by far in the best "semi original" shape I had seen. I told him that It wasn't what I was looking for but it was such an rare bird I was interested in buying it. We made a deal and I took it home. After spending an afternoon cleaning it out I had a better look at it. This is what I can tell youCons All Vinyl and rubber is trashMost of the Chrome is pitted like crazyFloor boards show the very very beginnings of being a problem towards the foot area. This problem is almost not worth brining up. I just want to be honest with you guys. Original motor is F-R-O-Z-E-N. This didn't really effect me as I was going to drop in a newer sr20 DET motor and sell the non smog parts on ebay. No Paper Work No License plates Vinyl top rottenNo tail lights or head lights No door keys I started the process of taking the motor and transmission out which means it's officially a basket case. "Sorry guys"ProsWith the exception of the headlights. It's just about all there. I mean it from the front bumper to the rear. what ever isn't there either got eaten by the desert sun or fell apart while I cleaned it out. The odometer reads 45. 64 miles I have no reason not to believe this to be a 1967 Datsun roadster with an original 46. 00 miles on it. The action on the transmission shifter is so close to new condition with no slop and a very tight and intentional shift pattern. The doors close like a mercedes and the steering is tight as a frogs @$$. The shocks have plenty of spunk and the tread on the tires are very pronounced. I found the ignition and key in the glove box. It has the original spare and spare tire cover both a little worn. but original. The wind Screen Is clear of Bulleyes. chips or cracks. Look at the Chrome Trim and the body in the pictures! It is Noteworthy! The trim isn't Perfect. but it is hands down way way better than any other 311 I've ever purchased. Every body knows how much these spear kits go for and it has a front bumper. The current condition of the Body will either save you thousands of bucks in body work or hours of your own time. Has the Gas TankThats all I can think of for now I know there isn't a picture of the entire car with the hood on it. You know and I what these look like. I want to show you pictures of the car that are alway problematic with rust or shows how straight the lines are on this Datsun. Look At The Pictures.
