Very Nice '48 Dodge Sedan, Easy Fluid-Drive Cruising, Low Miles, Low Reserve 230 CI L-Head Straight 6, 82k original miles according to previous owner.Options include AM radio, heater / defrost, turn signals, reverse light and full size rear seat for "lounge" feel. Most importantly for drivers like me that are not a fan of full "three on the tree" manual transmissions, the 48 Dodge came equipped with a semi-automatic transmission, described here by Motor Trend: "Some features were never duplicated by others in Detroit; a notable example is the easy operation of the Fluid Drive transmission." "The practical effect was that, once you got going, you could drive without a clutch, even after stopping for a traffic light; a light touch on the brake while stationary and pointed uphill was enough to keep from rolling backward. On Dodges built between 1947 and 1952, the fluid coupling/three-speed manual transmission combination was standard equipment. Plus, compared to GM's fully automatic Hydra-Matic transmission (which, for the early versions, often needed rebuilds after as few as 20,000 miles), Fluid Drive was nearly maintenance-free." Recent work: Full exhaust from engine back, the car is nice and quiet even when revving, everything welded. Brakes done all around along with a couple of lines and wheel cylinders, pedal is firm and car stops easily. Over the last few years the carburetor was rebuilt, full tuneup, new 6 volt starter and new rear shocks. For a '48 she's really easy to drive, the big old girl accelerates well, the bias ply whitewalls have a nice road feel and the steering is nice and tight. You can tell the Dodge was always garage kept; no rust anywhere and the paint and chrome shine up nicely. When you've got her at 75 on the highway, holding the road easily and passing slower traffic she certainly does not feel like a 70 year old car. Of the few cars I've had from the 40's this one is the easiest and most fun to drive. My wife remarked that steering it while parking is relatively manageable, not a workout like a couple of previous cars we've had from the 40's. I intend on using the metal visor above the windshield for my next project, whatever it is. I left it on the car in case the buyer wants to make an offer on it, otherwise the car will be sold without it. The interior visors are in nice shape, mohair feels great, and they don't sag or shake. See "condition description" above for a listing of cosmetic issues, I'm glad to say they're fairly minor. Selling due to finances.
