This is a stable running and driving 1948 Dodge 4 door, I drive it regularly. The paint looks to be mostly original paint but flaking in some spots. The interior is from the period, I have not replaced it but no holes or tears. The car isn't perfect, it is more of a survivor really. The Exterior is very solid and all of the framings are very straight as well as the inline 6 and stock transmission under the hood. Running and driving car that can be driven as is, or with a little TLC, can be quite the classic cruiser. I kept it as is because of the patina and drives fine. All original dash and components, including tube radio. A major component of the personality of this largely unrestored 1948 Dodge D24 Town Sedan is its Fluid Drive transmission. The only moving parts were two finned and bowl-shaped steel shells--one attached to the crankshaft, acting as an impeller, while the other attached to the driveshaft. The two parts of the drive are submerged in a couple of gallons of low-viscosity oil and never touched.1948 Dodge D24 SedanSpecifications ENGINE Type: L-head inline six, cast-iron block Displacement: 230 cubic inches Bore x stroke: 3.25 x 4.625 inches Compression ratio: 6.7:1 Horsepower @ RPM: 102 @ 3,600 Torque @ RPM: 184 lbs ft @ 1,200 Valvetrain: Valve-in-block Main bearings: 5 Fuel system: Singe Stromberg one-barrel BXV-3 carburetor, mechanical pump Lubrication system: Internal pressure, gear-type pump Electrical system: 6-volt Exhaust system: Cast-iron manifold, single exhaust TRANSMISSION Type: Chrysler three-speed manual with Fluid Drive Ratios: 1st 2.57:1 2nd 1.83:1 3rd 1.00:1 Reverse 2.48:1 DIFFERENTIAL Type: Hypoid type, floating axles Ratio: 3.90:1 STEERING Type: Worm-and-roller Ratio: 18.2:1 Turns, lock-to-lock: 4 Turning circle: 38 feet BRAKES Type: Hydraulic, four-wheel manual internal-expanding drum Front-rear: 10-inch drums CHASSIS & BODY Construction: Body-on-frame Frame: Perimeter Body style: Four-door sedan Layout: Front engine, rear-wheel drive SUSPENSION Front: Independent, unequal-length A-arms; coil springs; telescoping shock absorbers Rear: Solid axle; longitudinal semi-elliptical leaf springs; telescoping shock absorbers WHEELS & TIRES Wheels: Pressed steel disc, drop center Front/rear: 15 x 5 inches Tires: Denman four-ply, white sidewalls Front/rear: 7.0 x 15 WEIGHTS & MEASURES Wheelbase: 119.5 inches Overall length: 204.5 inches Overall width: 73 inches Overall height: 66.1 inches Front track: 57 inches Rear track: 60.125 inches CAPACITIES Crankcase: 5 quarts Cooling system: 16 quarts Fuel tank: 16.9 gallons Transmission: 2.75 pints
