Description of 1968 Dodge Dart GT |
1968 Dodge Dart GT (LP23D8E151xxx) 318-4bbl (was factory 273-2bbl), automatic with factory console and factory bucket seats, power steering, original Dart thumbwheel AM radio, factory vinyl top car, painted steel wheels with the dog dish caps and Cooper Cobra 205-70-14" tires, original 108,850 miles on the body (as stated on title and owner history), I am the third owner on the car, the previous owner bought it off the original owner from New Mexico in 2001. The Dart GT was bought new and delivered in Murray, Utah and was sold by Dodge Town Dealer. I have the original new car pre-delivery service inspection sheet, the original Certicard, the original operators manual and clear jacket, 2 perfect factory build-sheets and the original fender tag is on the Dart!!! This Dart GT is a very nice original car that is perfect for driving to cruises and a nice local car show! I would consider it a driver type of car and not an all out 100 point concourse show car. The Dart runs and drives excellent and is an absolute blast to drive! I just went over the entire car and replaced several items that I will list below. The Dart is an extremely well documented car and is in excellent driving condition. I typically restore or finish around 10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 25 years and I do everyone as they were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars that I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale. Please call Chad at 412- 496- 1439 with any questions. Thanks! Paint and body The paint is nice for a driver and an occasional show car but is not a trailer queen 100 point show car paint job. The New Mexico body is in excellent shape and the panels are pretty straight overall but again not concourse arrow straight. The Dart has very good seems and panel fit. The super high-gloss deep clear coat shine was just professionally wet sanded with 1500 and 2000 grit paper to achieve the high caliber ultra shine finish. This long process alone took over 50 hours and the finish shows it!The body is in very nice shape for a car that was painted more than 15 years ago and has only had one repaint since new. The Darts sheet metal is believed to be original including the quarters, doors, fenders, hood, trunk lid, floor boards, trunk floor and trunk extensions, frame and even center of the trunk floor is excellent! I spoke to the person who painted it and they said the body was extremely good. The only blisters I've seen are the two that just touch the edge of the wheel lip molding on the LH side (looks more like paint prep issue). They are dime size in shape and appear to be just a surface issue. The wheel well lips are clean and not full of fillers. There are a couple marks below the lower body line where the factory small holes were located for the body side moldings. They were welded shut and removed when the car was painted. There are only a few paint chips as well that have been brush touched-up. Please look at the photos closely I listed a lot of extra listed below. The trunk is in super nice shape and you can see all the factory correct spot welds and it has one of the cleanest rear deck lid filler panels when looking inside the trunk up to the rear window. The bottom rocker panels are even in very nice shape, very clean, and not full of bondo/fillers. The doors close absolutely beautiful and be push shut with the ease of your finger! Please view the extra pictures that I have linked below for good close-up photos of these area's as well as over 50 more pictures of the Dart. GLASS, CHROME, TRIM AND VINYL TOP The glass is in very nice original condition. All the glass appears to be original Chrysler date coded glass. There are only a couple very small minor scratches (mostly windshield). The side glass, ¼ glass and rear window are extremely nice for original glass! The front windshield has one chip with about a ½" crack that has been there for over 15 years and is on the driver side close to the lower corner and has a little of the white haze on the sides/ends but overall it is nice original glass. The windows operate as should and line up excellent. The bumpers are in nice shape and have a very good shine and no pitting on them. There are a couple minor marks on the front and rear bumper but very nice overall. The door handles, driver side mirror, wing vent window chrome and emblems are also in very nice condition. The window trim is very clean and good fit to the car. The vinyl top is good for a driver but I would eventually put a new one on it as it has a few marks and some blisters starting in some areas. INTERIOR The Dart's interior is in very nice condition and looks great! The dash cluster is really nice and is all original with no cuts or aftermarket junk. All of the factory gauges work and operate correctly. The seats, headliner, and carpet were done by the previous owner and look great! All lighting works as should including the high/low beam's, dome light, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers and license plate light. The factory Dart AM thumbwheel radio is currently not working but looks great and is original. The E-brake, defrosters, heater, fan and horn all work as should. The dash pad appears to be the original one and in nice condition but does have some cracks on the RH corner/edge. DRIVE TRAIN The excellent running 1968 318 makes good power, sounds great and I would drive this car anywhere! It is topped off with an original factory cast iron intake # 2531915, Edelbrock 600cfm carb and the Mopar Performance black wrinkle finish valve covers and air cleaner. The 318 has a casting date of 3-7-68 and was told it was out of a 1968 Coronet. The factory numbers below the driver side head are PM 318 R 2478 1263 making it a 1968 Mound Road plant built motor on May 10th 1968. The 318 has a newer mild cam, lifters, timing chain, electronic distributor, fuel pump and all gaskets. The 7 ¼ rear-end is original to the car and has the original factory 2.94 ratio center section and has several factory paint markings still stamped on the housing. This excellent drive train combo runs and drives awesome in all conditions whether highway or city driving.
