Description of 1968 Dodge Charger |
This is a real deal, legit XS code Charger RT. It is a medium green metallic, black interior, black vinyl top, black transverse bumblebee stripe, manual drum brake, power steering, bucket seats, console, AC car. If you've been shopping for a 2nd gen charger project lately (68, 69 or 70) you've probably not had much luck. They have all but disappeared and when one does come along its rusted out so bad its depressing and many times not worth the effort but have no fear cause this is the car you've been looking for. The body styles popularity has soared in the last couple years and restored RTs are bringing stupid money so don't let this one get away. It may be the last chance you get for some time.
This car still wears most of its original paint. The drivers door and pass fender were sold off before I found it. I replaced them with rust free pieces. The floors are in amazing shape. The car is practically rust free from the rear axle forward. As with most of these chargers the trunk rusts out and this one is no exception however I have already cut out most of the rust, cleaned and treated the rear frame rails with GEM (rust killer) and screwed the new AMD pieces into place. Nothing is welded yet. I replaced the trunk floor, both trunk extensions, rear cross member and rear valance. The wheel houses will need some patch work but nothing a skilled body man cant handle. I WOULD NOT replace them. You never want to remove wheel houses unless its absolutely necessary and its not on this car. The quarters can be patched or replaced. Buyers option. I can also do all the sheet metal work if Buyer so desires @ $45 per hr. The rear roof area needs patched but I have the pieces needed off a donor charger. The front windshield channels are rust free. Best I have ever seen. With the exception of the left rear frame rail all the frame rails are in great shape. The left rear will need the last 12" cut off and replaced. Both rear leaf spring supports (short little brackets on outside rear of each rear frame rail) will need replaced. The engine is a correct 1968 "D" 440 HP, standard bore with cylinders so clean I think it would run with a carb and distributor. I have pix of heads off for anyone to see. The intake and radiator are both original. I have most of the chrome trim but don't have the rear window trim or rear tail light panel trim. The wheels are the original 14" road ralleys that came on the car. The trans is a big block 727 that will need a rebuild. The rear is the original 8-3/4 with 3:23's. The car also has its full hemi suspension with 6 leaf springs, heavy duty torsion bars and front sway bar. . I also have all the dash plastic (with the 68 only ribbed surface), a nice set of gauges (with correct ribs) and a really nice set of pads that mount on the doors and above rear door panels. I also have the AC box for the car. I am missing a few small pieces here and there so dont expect a 100% complete car but I would say its 95% there. I am only offering this car for sale as I am moving soon and don't have the time for it right now. The grill is in incredibly great shape. I couldn't find a single crack. I also have both door and qtr glasses and they are the correct tinted version. I don't have the fender tag (guy I got it from couldn't find it) but he DID have a copy of the codes. I can email them to anyone that wants them. The body stamp on radiator support and truck lip both match and the dash vin plate is still attached to dash frame. I do have both bucket seats and complete rear seat, frames and tracks are in good shape.
I have done my best to describe this car but there is no accounting for individual taste. As usual winning bid is NOT an invitation to inspect but a legally binding contract to purchase. This car is available for inspection any time prior to auction ending. I urge any interested parties to either inspect car themselves or send someone to act as their agent. YOU WIN THE AUCTION I EXPECT YOU TO PAY FOR THE CAR. This car is sold without warranty. 20% non-refundable down pymt due7 days after auction end. Vehicle must be picked up within 3 weeks or storage charges will apply.
Don't bother emailing me with pointless questions like "what is least you will take for it"? (I want the most I can get, duh!) or "what is your reserve"? If your a serious buyer make me a serious offer or just bid on it. WHATEVER YOU DO DONT BID ON IT IF YOU CANT COMMIT. I don't have time or patience for buyers who back out after they have won the auction and outbid other parties who may actually want the car.
