1938 Dodge Westchester Suburban (Woodie Wagon) for Sale Not much is know about these very rare and collectable cars. but here is what I know. Starting in 1933 Dodge made a deal with U. S. Body and Forging Company. Dodge would send a ½ ton commercial chassis with complete bodywork from the cowl forward to the U. S. Body and Forging Company where a custom made wood body would be assembled on the chassis and adding of the interior. A trademark of U. S. Body and Forging Company was white ash framing with maple panels and a red gumwood trim strip at the beltline. The car would then be sent back to Dodge for final assembly and trim. These cars were not a factory offering. Each one was a custom order. True production numbers are unknown as records were not kept on custom built non Dodge factory offerings. However. it is widely believed that the production figures are very low. less than 500 units in 1938. Ford dominated the market for station wagons. so it wasn’t surprising that Dodge stopped building Westchester Suburbans in 1939. Due to the very nature of woodie wagon construction. these extremely collectible vehicles have a low survival rate. Few Dodge Westchester Suburban Wagons survive. Making this a very rare car today. one of only four 1938’s in the National Woodie Registry. This car needs a complete restoration. it was found in Venezuela then shipped to the US in a container. I bought it approx. five years ago. paid $14. 00 for it. plus paid $1. 00 to have it shipped from Maryland to California. I have too many projects. it has to go.
