Description of 1974 Dodge Power Wagon W-100 Custom |
This is a VERY detailed listing. If you're investing in a truck of this type, you'll probably want to know a whole bunch about it. I've separated this post into sections. You're going to love this truck. Own it while others envy. If you're looking for a badass, tough as nails, custom, 4-wheel drive, go-anywhere work truck, this is it. LOTS has been done to make this truck a real prize. Check out the pics, read the list of upgrades, and call or text. This rig is ready to go. Old School PRE-SMOG 1974 Dodge W100 4x4 Powerwagon ----- MECHANICAL STUFF ----- ~ V-8 360cu with New Edelbrock Intake with New Edelbrock 4 Barrel Carb ~ Custom headers with Dual Exhaust ~ NEW 727 torque-flight transmission with divorced NP205 transfer case ~ Locking Warn brand hubs (I've never had problems with Warn hubs) ~ Front Disc Brakes!! ~ New high Torque Starter ~ Power Steering ~ New custom made high-output alternator (from the venerable Premier Power Welder aka Ace Alternator) ~ 2 New Batteries ~ New water pump, thermostat, and hoses ~ Recent complete tune-up (wires, plugs, etc) ~ Like New 33" Tires with 33" Spare ~ 4" Sky Jacker brand suspension lift, ~ 50 gal Military gas tank (with large fill hole and proper baffling) and spare 5 gallon tank with custom holder. ~ New remote control 12000 lb Winch ~ New Hi-lift jack with custom front bumper mount ~ Heavy duty "Cow Killer" front Bumper with off-road lights (disconnected but there) ~ Custom Nerf Bars ~ Custom Flat Bed that extends 4-feet!! This is my favorite part! It's a short bed that extends to an extra long bed. ~ Bed made with strong and light-weight expanded metal (this bed is amazing) ~ Heavy Duty (folding) Lumber/ladder Rack (removable but also folds without removing) ~ New 5" capacity plumbers vise ~ 1/2 ton lifting Crane (properly mounted to handle load) ~ Commercial Grade Diamond-Plate Tool Box (locking with key) ~ Tow hitch ~ Large diamond plate base mounted on bed and ready to accept Welder (or have Premier in Yucca Valley make a custom engine mounted welder for you while you're in the area) ----- COSMETIC ----- ~ Interior is in great condition ~ Nice leather seats ~ New carpet ~ 12" steering wheel ~ Custom "summer" doors (see pics) ~ Original doors as well (currently installed) ~ 4 New fosgate speakers ~ Equipped with A/C but needs recharge (but it's there so you can get it working) ----- Body ----- ~ Body is straight ~ No rust!! ~ Never been in an accident ~ Has scratches but it's a work truck. If you want to touch it up, there's a can of spray paint in the truck and plenty of the same color at the Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, or your favorite auto parts store. ~ Military flat green paint with big "black star" painted on the hood (my wife's favorite part) ~ Nerf bars ~ New carpet ----- WHY YOU SHOULD BUY THIS TRUCK----- Specifically it's a 1974. This is "THE YEAR" to get. Prior to 1974 they didn't have disk brakes. In 1975 it went to full-time 4-wheel drive...which gets horrid gas mileage and wears out components way too fast. And in 1976, you have to worry about passing smog...and you sure wouldn't be able to alter much of anything in the engine, carb, exhaust, etc. This year has the desirable "divorced" transfer case, the disk brakes, Warn brand locking hubs, and a brand new transmission. The 1974 Dodge W-100 Power Wagon 4x4 is the best year to have for sure. It's a badass, tough rig for work, offroad wheeling, or ranch truck. Just put on your welder and be the trail hero. Sure you could buy a stock truck and put years of time, labor, and a boatload of cash into making your own rig. Truthfully, it will take a very long time (if it ever actually gets done) and a lot more money (all while your wife gets upset). You'd never get your money back, believe me I know! All of this work was done by an absolute professional welder. There's no cheesy work here. Everything was purpose-built for work and off-roading. I drove this truck from Fresno to Santa Barbara and then down to Joshua Tree and all over the desert down there. It never let me down on the road or in the sand. I used it as a work truck to get to a very remote cabin that I own in Wonder Valley. I never really put it to the test. Mostly drove it on desert roads and in and out of the wash to get to my cabin. It hauled heavy loads in soft sand uphill with no problems. ----- WHAT IT NEEDS ----- Everyone wants to know what a vehicle needs before they buy it. This one is really pretty well sorted out. The body is straight but the paint could use touch up. Thankfully with the flat paint, a "rattle can" (included) will do the trick. "Park" doesn't seem to stay so I use the emergency brake. Although you do need a key to turn on the ignition, it starts with a push button. Heater is bypassed (heater core is available for $63 at O'Reilly's...I checked). Off-road lights are present but have been disconnected. It's not a show piece but it's the most admirable truck at the jobsite or on the trail. If you're looking for a work truck that looks cool, this is it. If you're looking for a pristine, shiney paint, truck that looks rugged...this could be made to look that way with a proper paint job. All the hard work is done. The "stock" door panels could use some sort of attention. The door panels are probably the worst part of the truck, that said, they aren't too bad. They are fiberglass/plastic and have gotten cracks in them over the years. I was going to remove them and have a surfer friend of mine touch them up, repaint them, and put them back. They'd look really nice if this was done. The bottom "kick plate" on the inside of the doors had someone cut speaker holes in them at one point. The speakers aren't mounted there any more but the holes still exist. I planned to put diamond plate (metal or rubber) there to cover the holes and make it look good. The steering column could use some touch up paint. The fan shroud is missing. They are available on eBay for $50 or at a junk yard for not much at all. The 360cu (5.9 liter) motor is very common. Finding these are easy. My plan was to put an electric fan on there, that is why I had the oversized alternator (twice stock output) built. The drivers door needs to be aligned better so it shuts smoothly. Given that these doors get taken on and off, I haven't cared much. You can adjust it if you'd like. I think that's about it. It's a California born and raised vehicle. It lived most of it's life in Salinas owned by one family. It was then purchased by a guy in Fresno who had it for a while, and then it became mine. The odometer reads "about" 48,000...I can't remember exactly. I fully believe that this is 148,000 and not more...could it be 48,000? Maybe but I doubt it. Feel free to tell your friends that it's the original mileage. :-) ----- PURCHASE QUESTIONS, PRICE, and WHY I'm SELLING IT ----- Why am I selling it? Simply, I no longer need the truck and that's the only reason I'm selling it. The work on my desert cabin is done and now I only need a light-weight 4x4 (truck or SUV). This truck is HUGELY popular out here. Everywhere I go someone asks about it... if I'm selling it... or something like that. I have it listed elsewhere so if you're interested, don't wait. I'm happy to help coordinate with a shipping company. This is a great rig. Someone is definitely going to buy it...and love owning it. I've had a great time. Never let me down. |
