Description of 1973 Dodge Dart

***This is a NO RESERVE 7-day auction, ending Sunday night. I do not have a buy it now listed, but will consider any serious offers. I reserve the right to end the auction early at any time***
For sale: Stunning time capsule "day 2" original paint survivor 340 Dart Sport, highly documented car. Ordered new by a wheat farmer in October 1972 from Frontier Dodge in Great Falls, MT. If you know these folks, they do very well, and have some of the best toys - with ample winter shop time to keep them nice. The farmer wanted the car to run as well as the 383 Dart GTS he traded in, so he made the typical "day 2" mods - headers, intake, carb, gears, mag wheels. He kept most all the stock parts and they will be included. I purchased the car from him several years ago - I'm the 2nd owner, and a retired engineer. Like Jay Leno, I have a large collection of vintage cars and trucks. Unlike Jay, I do not have unlimited funds or storage, so I have to sell from time to time. This car is from my personal collection, and it is one of the most documented cars I've seen - includes original window sticker, warranty papers, sales contract, consumer info, original title card, brochures, owners manuals, shop manuals, and more. Original keys on original fob and factory spare has never touched the ground. 69k actual miles, this car was never driven in rain or snow. Includes "340" license plate, which isn't a personalized plate - original owner asked the DMV clerk to dig thru the stack of plates to get that number. I'll do my best to describe this special Mopar below, please see the Flickr album link below in the description for detail pics including underside, and the YouTube walk around and driving videos.

Exterior: Original Super Blue (aka Petty Blue) paint still shines and looks great. Car was properly stored in a dry quonset with a concrete floor, and that preserved it. Straight car overall with a very few small dings, most notable in hood where original owner closed it on a screwdriver. I added the 340 decal on the hood, it's vinyl and easily removed. Very dry car, as rust-free as an A-body can be, no rot or cancer, no bubbles under vinyl top and even spare tire well looks as new. Montana is arid country and the condition of the car reflects that. There are a couple of very small pencil-tip blisters starting low behind passenger rear wheel, and some light discoloration on the underside, that's it. Paint is worn thin on the spine and outer edges of the trunk. Stripes have some cracks after nearly 50 years. Exterior chrome is very nice and glass is good. Rear bumper and tail light bezels have some dulling from exhaust, as is typical on these cars. See detail pics in Flickr album below including underside. Draws a crowd wherever I stop, so be prepared for that.

Interior: Rare bucket seat/console interior all original in good condition. Stock save for aftermarket back-in-the day tach and stereo, original radio is included. A few small tears in carpet around the console and one small tear in the back seat, not really noticeable. No rodents or smells, presents very well. I believe everything works except the turn signals, which quit recently. I will investigate and update the description accordingly. Very nice and ready to cruise.

Mechanical: Original numbers matching 340 runs super strong and sounds VERY healthy. No noticeable smoke, noises, or leaks. Trans was built with small converter and shift kit, car is really crisp. Original owner felt factory 8 1/4 rear was not stout enough for a hot 340, and upgraded to an 8 3/4 with 3.91 Sure-Grip. Very streetable but quicker than most big block cars. Nasty sounding Direct Connection cam with Flowmaster exhaust. BFG T/A radials were put on new last year. I have the original carburetor, converter, correct 73 date coded exhaust manifolds, steel wheels with the original poverty caps in excellent condition, and many extra NOS and reproduction parts that go with it. I don't have the original intake manifold. Rear end does have an audible howl at certain speeds, as is typical with 3.91 gears. Didn't bother me, but I'm putting it out there. Ready to use as is, can't think of anything it needs except turn signals, and I will check into that and update the description. It is an old car and will need maintenance and repairs from time to time. If you live in a state with very strict vehicle inspections, they will no doubt find something for you to fix, so expect that.
