Description of 1968 Dodge Coronet |
This is a 1968 Dodge Coronet 500. The owner has had it for 3 years. The vehicle runs great and is mainly used for weekend drives. Vehicle Details Next Up. No Reserve! 1968 Dodge Coronet 500. You are buying with the peace of mind knowing you’re purchasing from a family owned car dealership that my brother and I own. Wally Armour Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram located in Alliance, Ohio. We’ve been in business since 1981. My brother asked me to list this car along with several others from our personal collection, so be sure to look at my other listings, all will be No reserve auctions. Test drives and inspections before making your final bid are welcome. All the vehicles will be sold AS-IS of course. The pictures have been taken within a few short days of listing on EBay and I have not modified any pictures. The only reason we are selling this car and a few others is because I recently retired and sold my home that had ample storage for many vehicles. We simply can not have this many cars and keep them all under roof. We bought this Coronet April 7th 2020. We bought it here on EBay with 51085 miles on it now it has 51227. Whether that mileage is accurate, I do not want to falsely represent what I’m selling. When we did our final paper work it was listed with zero miles. So I just want to sell tmu true miles unknown or with the clear understanding I Cant prove accurate miles or that it might be 151227 miles on it. It was one of many cars we purchased over the last few years. We wanted a Mopar without spending big money. Over time we have bought more cars and simply are ready to lighten our fleet. When we bought the car it was represented to us as a matching numbers 318 engine and a 727 torque flight transmission car that was restored in 2018 with an interior that was near flawless the air conditioning was listed as being ice cold and the paint was new and the top new and it runs and drives great. It was stated in the listing when we bought it “the person who purchase this vehicle will be very pleased with no disappointments”. Well we have learned that a four sentence description doesn’t quite tell the whole story. I did have disappointments with this car but it has turned out to be one of the more reliable cars we have in our collection, and there are many good things about the car. To be blunt the words restoration, flawless ice cold A/C, very pleased, no disappointments, runs and drives great and photos I felt when we bought the car were lets just call it doctored up. That’s just my opinion. Anyways it’s my job not to over promise and under deliver so let me tell you about the car now. First let me tell you what we did to the car. In April 2022 we sent it to get transmission rebuilt, Replaced valve cover gaskets, replaced rear brake cylinders and replaced both rear axle gaskets replaced master cylinder, changed bad brake proportioning valve, replaced loose idler arm replaced loose pitman arm, replaced brake hoses front and rear new bake shoes rear and any misc hardware. The last few cars I’ve listed it was easy to start with the short list of things I didn’t like or thought the car needed fixed/addressed. I will do the same but in reverse order. This cars starts, runs good, shifts good, and drives straight. From a distance it looks really nice. I get it’s not a 2-door but it still looks really cool. The seats, carpet, and head liner are very nice but not flawless. I’ll explain all the derogatory aspects of car shortly. If I stopped there and added some fully capital words you could expect to 30k plus from my description so far. Now let me tell you the next owner needs to know, fix, or simply take in consideration to place a clear value on this car. The fun thing about listing things on eBay in a no reserve auction is knowing exactly what your buying. The more I know the easier it is for me to bid, this is why my feedback is what it is. When you start the car you will need to pump the gas peddle quickly while turning the key after about 6 to 8 pumps she will fire right up. While the car idles after starting you will notice a noise from engine, yes a ticking noise. Today’s test drive while idling whithout moving the car to speed this process up it took 13 minutes for the ticking to go away. I’ve done this before by driving it and it takes less that 13 minutes but I didn’t clock it on those occasions, today I did and it was around 7 am and 66 degeees outside. I did not have to crank the car multiple times. I simply started pumping the peddle while turning the key and she started without any spitting sputtering or lacking responce. Next I checked the heater, if the air conditioning ever did work I either didn’t know how to operate it or it simply never worked since we bought the car and the air conditioning has never worked. Back to the heater the heat, defrost and fan do work. The defrost will switch to heat and vice versa. I couldn’t really tell whether the temperature lever really made any diference pressed all the way or drawn back a bit whether it made any difference. But heat and defrost and fan speed do work, a little tight but that’s a 1968 cable operated mechanism I guess. Then I went to wiper blades they worked fine and all three speeds but you have to time it when you turn them off so as to lay flat when you don’t use or need them. The washer fluid button did not work. The amp gauge over to left of steering wheel was holding just over the half way point so I thought it worked untill I turned car off and it stayed at same position so I don’t think it works. The gas gauge does work but you wont find me driving any classic car without first going to the gas station first. Next was the light check. The overhead dome light does not work under any scenario but the light over the radio works both by the manual switch just beside it or when you open the door. The switch is a little finicky so you recognize the right spot when you move it back and forth. The little lights on the top of each fender to not light up. When using the turn signals, when turning to the left you hear the turn signal indicator noise clicking but not when you signal to the left . The outside rear lights passenger side were not working today, the brake, left turn signal and flashers did not work. My daughter said the entire left assembly was not working. The right side was. The head lights and the bright light switch on the floor all worked. No revers lights and front left blinker is out as well. Plate frame light does work. Now for a test drive. The initial engine tick when I first started it was gone and for the 25 mile drive or so it never returned. I wanted to point that out that it has been like that since we got it and it has never overheated or stranded me or anyone who has taken it for the weekends. The engine does run great, no hesitating no lag in power but its not a big block and it wont peal the rubber off the rims and I won’t power brake it to find out. But it does run good. The transmission shifts good and it will down shift when you press on gas as it should and you can feel it shift and it’s smooth, all good there. When you apply the brake the car stays straight and feels good. When braking lightly there is no noise or pulsation, but when your approaching your stop or begin a firmer more aggressive brake pedal you’ll hear a clunking noise. Clunk clunk clunk. It’s a rotational noise and you can feel it in the brake pedal, but the brake does not pulsate. I don’t really know hat to say about that, braking is nice and steady and easy but when approaching the end of stop you’ll hear it. If you brake lightly you wont hear it. I know its not really driven enough. I think the car need more attention and drive more often. The suspension feels fine but you will hear some squeaking, sound like rubber bushings but nothing that would make you feel nervous. Over all driving the car is a pleasure it always starts always drives nice and looks really cool. Besides my drive today the last time i drove it was a month ago. I feel confident in driving this car. The body or paint is average at best, it looks pretty good from a distance but when you get close you’ll see bondo sand marks paint bubbles and simply a mediocre job at best. I took pictures so you can see what your getting. Also beneath the car one of the floors had been patched, it doesn’t appear to welded but rather screws holding a nedal patch a rear rear set floor area. The trunk is thin with a couple tiny holes but you can tell it was sandblasted and a patch brobably fiberglass or bonds patch then painted. I removed Vynle floor cover and took pictures. The interior seats are excellent. The carpet is good with exception of blemish in front floor area i took picture the dash is cracked the a pillar plastic is cracked up and all four door panels are simply wearing and aging bending at te corners. The cigarette lighter doesn’t work and radio to be candid i never tried so just for the heck of it pretend it doesnt work either. The headliner is still pretty good but there are a couple spots where they’re not tight anymore but no sagging and no wind from windows down causes any more looseness. The passenger sun visors edge stitching is coming out too. I think you will see in pictures. The windshield also has a chip in it, almost forgot. The bottom line is this car is far better now even with the things I’ve listed wrong with car. I’m of the opinion that having an older car requires an individual willing to take care of thier cars get to know them and maintain them. My brother and I simply don’t have the time right now nor the space so we are simply deciding which cars we can do with and which ones without. I wouldn’t have any hesitation to getting this car and going to cedar point and back, i just wont do it on a 85 degree day. I like honest “NO RESERVE” auctions i don’t need to sell a headache by misrepresenting the cars I offer. I also noticed if you view on eBay versus eBay motors one shows 40 photos and the other shows many more so look at both eBay and eBay motors to be sure your seeing all the photos In took. |
