Description of 1960 Edsel

Owned car 20 years-found in Hemmings Motor News located in a desert town in New Mexico abandoned and not running since the early 70's-the motor was surrounded by overgrown tumbleweeds from sitting for a long while. Low mile (57k) original was neglected in a dry climate. preserving the chrome & glass well-all original stuff never re-plated or replaced. Car was stripped of original inoperable 292 ci Y-Block. when I cut the exhaust pipe a quart of oil ran out. nbsp;and the boring 2 speed Cruise-O-Matic Transmission and in went the expert built Hi Performance 460 Big Block Ford and C-6 Trans with Hi-Stall converter. Custom headers made and installed one tube at a time. custom motor mounts to shoehorn in the huge motor. I fabbed up crossmember from 1/2 inch steel plate to accommodate the huge collectors and the 3 inch mandrel-bent full length exhaust system with H-Pipe. Flowmaster Delta 60 Series and 3 inch cutouts placed just before the rear axle for extra sound effects when you feel like popping some ear drums. Up front the frozen drum brakes got axed and in went disc brakes from a 1974 Ford Police Interceptor donor cop car in a wrecking yard. direct bolt up ball joint to ball joint when using this model for the swap. Rear brakes are still disc but completely rebuilt using all new parts and new dual reservoir master cylinder. Brand new 22 gallon RCI Racing Circle Track Fuel Cell replaced the original gas tank filled with evaporated gas varnish and probably frogs and rats. The original 9 inch rear end got fresh oil and the 3. 10 gears were fine. this is the best rear end for hi performance use and was what this car came with from the factory. 15x8 chrome reverse Ford OE polished center rear wheels with over 12 inch section width BF Goodrich 295-50's tucked in the back and Wide White US Royals on chrome 15x5 Wheel Vintiques Smoothies up front. Nostalgic American Graffiti rolling stock can be replaced with standard wheels and hub caps for sleeper status or if you want to look stock in a parade. New front shocks and rear air shocks in place. air nozzle for rear raising/lowering is behind the fuel door in back panel where filler neck was removed-now the gas goes into the trunk mounted fuel cell. Door jambs are still original white paint and I left the original red on the inside of the door window frame. showing the factory colors. Body wrapped in Nacre Metallic Gloss Orafol vinyl and roof covered in Black Mamba Snakeskin pattern RitRama vinyl-both from Fellers Inc. All interior parts removed including entire dashboard for repainting original red. new black Edsel carpet. new custom pleated door panels and padded leatherette package tray. tuck-and-roll white and red split front bench seat-rear original seat covered in black fabric. new wrinkle-finish headliner. Beautiful. Unique. Powerful. Driven less than 100 miles in 20 years of my owning the car. fresh motor fires right up. runs and drives sweet. no rattles. scrapes or squeaks from tires/exhaust. This is a HOT ROD. not a concourse show car. and the wipers and signals don't work right. but they are not supposed to. This car is not for driving in the rain. and if you want to change lanes other motorists notice you and stay back. you don't need blinkers. This is truly one of a kind. everyone likes to say that about their car but in this case it is true. My vision 20 years in the making is now for sale due to personal circumstances. this is your chance to buy it before I win the lotto or rob a bank.
