Description of 1979 Ferrari 308

EXTREMELY RARE!!"DRY SUMP MOTOR"

This Ferrari 308 is one of the desirable European specification steel body GTB versions with the dry sump engine and 4 Weber carburetors. The Ferrari 308 GTB has a 2. 9 litre V8 engine with Weber carburettors. The engine develops 255 Ps at 6, 600 rpm with a red line set at 7,700 rpm. It is a beautifully working engine as it goes through the revs. The soundtrack provide by the flatplane V8 is stunning. Helping you through the range is a manual 5-speed transmission. The Ferrari 308 GTB is steadily becoming a firm favorite amongst the buying public. It is just such a beautiful ride!

This is a rare opportunity to secure a dry sump carburetor Ferrari 308 GTB in great condition. Matters such as the headlights, bumpers and windows are all in very good condition. The paintwork is excellent with only a few minor blemishes evident. The chrome front grill bars are in very good shape. Inside it does not disappoint at all. The fantastic seats have lovely tan Nappa upholstery. All gauges and controls are in perfect shape.

The transversely mid-mounted aluminium V8 engine was essentially of the same design as that used in the 308 GT4 model.

It was of a 90 degree configuration, with belt driven twin overhead camshafts per bank, having a total capacity of 2926cc, with a bore and stroke of 81mm x 71mm, bearing factory type reference F 106 AB 000 for European market cars.

The engine was coupled in unit with the all synchromesh five speed transmission assembly, which was below, and to the rear of the engine’s sump. It was fitted with a bank of four twin choke Weber 40 DCNF carburettors, mounted in the centre of the vee, the exact specification of which depended upon the market.

European cars were fitted with dry sump lubrication, whereas Australian, Japanese and USA examples retained the wet sump lubrication system used on the 308 GT4. The claimed power output was 255bhp for European market models, and 240bhp for US market examples which were fitted with power sapping emission control equipment.
