Description of 1962 Ford Galaxie Club Sedan |
62 Galaxie 427 Side Oiler and TKO 600 This Galaxie is set up to mimic a Super Stock but be a great cruiser and 100% reliable. Built to be a driver. I have never hesitated to drive long distances to car shows. A great deal of work was done to the suspension. Special made expensive Eaton springs (more leafs) patterned after the 63 — 64 427 Galaxie were built and installed. The front Eaton coils were specified at 25% greater spring rate and 1 inch higher. Coupled with Quickor Engineering front and rear sway bars, nd gas-matic shocks make this car handle extremely well. Not like the land barges most were. A new front suspension kit, rag link and idler arm was installed along with a new steering coupler really helped tighten everything up. Steering is manual but very precise. Goes down the road straight and true. Suspension is tight but not harsh. The motor is a fresh 427 side oiler with medium riser heads, ual carbs and a nice lopy solid lifter cam, ess than 1500 miles. Motor is easily 475 + HP. Has that nice deep rumble only a big block solid lifter motor can produce. A buddy built this for his AC Cobra kit car but never finished the project. Crites headers and a full 2 ½ inch exhaust with custom exhaust cutouts for fun. Coupled with a new TKO 600 5 speed from American Power Train running through a Quicktime bell and Mcleod clutch and pressure plate to a Ford 9 inch with a new Detroit locker posi unit and 389 gears make this car a screamer through the first four gears but still can cruise at 70MPH at 2150RPM in overdrive. You get the best of both worlds. Ford 427 side oilers were not available until 63 but nevertheless it looks right at home. This car loves the freeway! The car itself came from Denver Colorado and is absolutely rust free. This car spent its life garaged. All original steel. It started life as a stripper Club sedan white with red interior with a six, hree on the tree, adio and rare clock delete. The Club sedan was a basic stripper model but the lightest of the Galaxie group so they were the logical choice as drag cars. This car gets tons of attention at cars shows especially when you raise the hood and they see the side oiler. The color combination of white with red interior is a real eye catcher. The interior is immaculate. Everything works on this car down to the cigarette lighter, ights, orn, urn signals, ipers etcetera. If it's cold the heater and defroster works as well. This car is a true pleasure to drive and gets thumbs up everywhere. I know, t does not have a radio but the music coming from the solid lifter 427 rowing through the gears is all the music a guy needs. With the painted steel wheels and dog dish caps it has that sleeper look. I especially like the trunk...simply huge. You can throw a cooler, awn chairs and an overhead tent in this thing and still have room. Other items done: New weather stripping New windsheild New seat covers New gas pedal. Other pedals were fine and the thick clutch pedal pad unique to these cars is there. Not reproduced and very hard to find New headliner New blower motor New trunk mat New round handle Hurst shifter for the TKO 600. Looks very close to an original shifter New Stewart Warner period correct gages, il and water New carpet New color matched seat belts front and rear I have a new package tray but have not gotten around to installing it New turn signal switch and cancelling cam New front shocks New Gabriel rear gas shocks tough to find. Have Gabriel coil overs for rear as well, hey go with it New Crites motor mounts Clutch Z bar rebuild kit New emergency brake cable MSD distributor and 6AL box New drive shaft NOS Radiator fan shroud New 4 core radiator that looks stock (Griffrin), ery expensive, ever gets above 180 degrees SSBC front discs and master cylinder with prop valve New 2 ½ rear brake drums, omponents and backing plates. 100% new bolt on from MP brakes New trunk mounted Diehard battery with disconnect switch New Crites fiberglass front and rear bumpers Crites fiberglass teardrop hood. Uses original front latch system along with hood pins for safety Complete exhaust, low Master mufflers with down turn tips at rear...very subtle look. New Quickor Engineering front and rear sway bars. 1 and ¼ front and 7/8 inch rear New BF Goodrich Radial TA front and rear tires. Front wheels are 6 inch steel and rears are custom Wheel Vintiques 8 inch steel. I have run 29 inch tall Hurst cheater slicks on these wheels and on this car with no issue Professional front end alignment New period correct tach 63 -64 period correct valve covers and air cleaner 427 Fender emblems Tons of paperwork The paint work is the only exception. I'm very picky. Ten feet away it's a 10 up close it's an 8. Nevertheless, t's very presentable and has done very well at shows. Underneath was left untouched as it was very clean and this was intended to be a driver. All the chrome and stainless is in great condition. Hate to see it go but wife says only one project car at a time. This one is done and I'm moving on to a new project so this one needs a new home. |
