1960 Ford Thunderbird
Last yr for the squarebird, eally nice solid Body etc SW car restored back in the 80s in Nevada, ars been off the road for over 20 yrs. BRIEF DESCRIPTION: originally this car was Silver ext with a black & white interior. In the 80s it was done with this maroon and red combo you see now, ery old and neglected. It looks ok in pics, ut really the whole cars needs restoration. We hooked up an electric fuel pump to a fuel source and after several cranks, he car fired up and ran. Motor sounded good. Ive started the car and run the motor several times sense and so far have run about half a gallon of gas thru it running it about 2min at a time. After about 2 min it starts smoking some out of the exhaust. The more we run it though the best the motor sounds and seems to not smoke as much. I cant get the brakes to pump up, t will need a master cylinder (and who knows what else really) and a full carb rebuild even before you can road test it. Ideally, t could use a full restoration but possibly with some mild work, ike brake and carb work, t may be road worthy, o hard to say. I think if it was restored back to the color combo it was originally it would be amazing, aybe even if it has a little resto mod touches to it couldnt hurt as well. DONT BID UNLESS YOU HAVE THE FUNDS IN HAND, pparently some people who use ebay arent smart enough to understand the rules. So if you have under 10 feedbacks, ll be emailing you if you bid to make sure you are legit, f we do please reply or we will cancel your bid. Up for Auction: LOW FAIR RESERVE !!! These cars are getting harder to find esp in this condition that are still affordable to most buyers.
DRIVETRAIN: this car has its factory V8 452 4V with Fords Auto trans behind it, nd basically all original at least under the hood. So if stock and original is your thing, hat makes the resto easier. Again, he motor runs and I can start it with the key and fuel source supplied, ut sense there are no brakes its I cant drive it around the parking lot. The E brake handle is there but seems to be stuck. The car rolls and steers fine with a few people pushing it. While running, very once in a while it pops too thru the carb. I wouldnt say its operable to move onto a car hauler etc right now. The original AC compressor and some other parts under the hood are missing, ut could be put back with modern touches easy enough. PS works looks like it could be totally functional. Originally drum brakes and 9" out back. NO battery will come with the car.
INTERIOR: take a look at the pics, lthough it looks okay in the pics the interior of this car is pretty wellworn out even though it was redone yrs ago. Even just sitting in the NV andAZ sun it is dry, usty and ready to be replaced. The stainless inside onthe dash and doors is VERY NICE, ven the chrome around the inside of the interior isnt too bad and could be polished out. You wont have to track down a bunch of trashed trim parts etc. LIghts work outside f/r but didnt check much else. Trunk is in very nice shape for its age, ittle to no rust at all, t would clean up well with a new trunk mat and tire, ts still wearing most of its original Silver paint inside ! The dr side PW works up and down, ut it is cracked . Rest of the glass looks fine, ut cant get any of the other windows to move.
EXTERIOR:the body and and sheetmetal look decent on a car this old. Could have repair work under the maroon paint, ut its really hard to tell. I did see evidence of bondo on the right side lower rocker, ot sure exactly how or why, ut the car has no rust damage to speak of now or previously. LF fender has primer behind the LF wheel from a recent dent it looks like someone started trying to pull out. Stripping the car would be the best way to redo this car and it really deserves it. I really think the car was pretty straight and clean prior to the current old Maroon paint job. OR they would restore the hell out of it ! or RESTO MOD the heck out of it !! One of the BEST features on these cars, ..it the rearend ! seeing these cars from behind, ith the small fins and 6 rocket engine style afterburner tail lights just speaks volumes for the styling in the late 50s and early 60s.
SUSPENSION:the suspension looks very much original and tires are decent yet about 10 yrs old, hey are mounted on late 60s Ford 14" Style Steel wheels used alot of Fairlanes and Mustangs. Not sure what all the suspension could need, ut its not falling off and the car rolls and steers fine while pushing it around our yard etc. Below are pics of some 18x9 Resto mod style rims we test fit on the car to see how well they would fit, nd they look and fit great ! SO IF THERE IS A WINNER and IF THEY WANT TO BUY the rims and maybe a good set of used 18" tires for it, ust inquire, .we can make you a good deal on those too !! Check out ALL the pics below ----->
it may take a full minute for them all to load ifyou have a slow connection, o be patient AND looks for the extra scroll bar on the right side. Az gets maybe 12" a yr of rain and Az very dry climate. more infoAFTER the pics etc. There are 100 large pics.
There you have it, robably The BEST represented T BIRDS on Ebay. Shows you all the good as well as any bad, ope you appreciate them. We put a lot of time and effort in marketing our cars and it shows. People wait months for a car this solid to come up for sale and even if you have to pay shipping to your area, t still beats paying a body shop to hopefully fix a rusty car for weeks on end. Having as much as the original steel on a restored car these days speaks volumes. This is a very RUST FREE CAR like most we have sold over the years, nd its still better then most out there for sale or bondo-ed up to look restored. I DONT KNOW WHATS UNDER THIS OLD PAINT JOB, nd it may have had some repair work done yrs ago, ts just too hard to tell. I can tell you though, f you look down the sides of this car on both Sides, dont see tons of waves running down the body like some cars there are a few bubbles starting near the rocker areas though. So expect some rust on the car during repaint and some repairs over the yrs. Its still so clean, f the car doesnt sell, m okay with that too because Id love to keep it its that nice. Also, f you buy a car thats been "restored", ho knows what sort of surprises are hidden under new paint or thick undercoating. People are flipping cars all the time when most of the jobs are fast, or a quick buck and quality suffers.
