Description of 1956 Ford F-100 Custom cab |
For sale is a beautiful example of a big back window 1956 Ford F-100, the one you have wanted to have for years. I started the restoration of this truck in the late 1980’s and finished it in about 1993. I have never driven it much and over the last few years only started it and drove it once or twice a year. I am 74 and it is time to let someone else enjoy it. THE DETAILS: It is all original steel. Everything was removed from the frame. The body had very little damage or rust and that was all repaired. Original bumpers and grill were rechromed. THE FRAME: Original frame with a ’70 Chevelle front clip including power disc brakes. A Chevy 396 and turbo 400 transmission was installed before the body was re-installed. Rear end is a 12 bolt positraction. The rear leaf springs had the ends reversed by a local blacksmith to give it the proper lowered look. IT HAS A BEAUTIFUL LOW, MEAN STANCE AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURES. THE BED: The bed floor was done with brushed stainless strips (instead of the usual wood) mounted on marine grade plywood. Chrome strips cover the seams. There is a space saver spare tire mounted under the bed. THE CAB: The interior is all new upholstery. The seat is out of a ’70 Thunderbird (solid bench with armrest) and the steering column is also out of a ’70 Thunderbird with column key. Mounted under the dash is an early Mustang air unit. Air system is installed but never finished and charged up. It would be and easy finish and would only require a fan belt and charge. Wind wings were removed and one-piece power windows installed in each door. They operate smooth and quiet. It’s not the usual red, blue or black. The color of the truck is a custom mix metallic gold with silver mix, base coat and clear coat. It draws looks and raves wherever it goes. After market gauges work fine but the speedo doesn’t. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Not highly show-detailed but nice. Chrome panel across the front. 396 has a Holly double pumper with vacuum secondaries and M/T aluminum valve covers. Air compressor is not hooked up. This nice truck will make someone proud. It may require a small amount of TLC because of its long time in dry, insulated storage, but not much. I am pricing this truck well below the huge numbers that dealers and pro shops ask, but you will like it just as much. If you are a Ford purist, I apologize for the 396/400 but it was what I wanted at the time. It’s still a F-O-R-D. Let me know what you think and ask all the questions you may have. I will answer them all. Buyer is responsible for shipping/delivery. Thanks for your interest. |
