Description of 1964 Ford Mustang |
1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible 4-speed with Air Conditioning and Rally Pac! This is a 1964 1/2 Mustang...NOT a '65. There are distinctdifferences between the two, but you need to know what to look for. A legit 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible optioned like this one is very rare and collectible! Up until spring of last year when I discovered it and brought it home, this was a lifelong Tucson, Arizona area car. I accidentally stumbled across it while looking at another classic car out in the area. It was in storage in a private Tucson collector's overflow pole-building. If not for that day it would still be sitting there as it was not for sale. I got lucky and hit the guy on the right day and was able to talk him into selling it to me on the spot. This is a D-code 289 4 barrel Mustang convertible. From what I have been told by a number of Mustang collectors is that most 1964 1/2 convertibles were built with either the smaller 260 V8 or a six cylinder engine. When you then factor in that this Mustang convertible is also a 4-speed manual transmission car, you really cut the production number down. Now throw in the fact that this 289 4bbl 4-speed convertible was also ordered with air conditioning and the production number plummets to an extremely low number. Not done yet, this early Mustang is also a Rally Pac option car. The car is extremely original, I can find only a handful of parts that I believe are not original. As you would expect from a lifelong Arizona car, this Mustang is extremely sound and rust free. The undercarriage is incredibly clean and unaltered, I can not imagine that you would be able to find a nicer survivor. At some point in the past the car was repainted white (original color combination was Caspian Blue with blue interior). While not perfect, the white paint still shines up really well and looks nice. The car does need a new convertible top and new carpet. All in all though, the car looks great. I was told by the longtime owner before me that the engine and 4-speed transmission in the car are the originals that the car was built with. All I did once I got the car home was give the engine a quick basic tune-up and it fired right up. The car runs, drives, and stops very nice. Engine sounds great and has plenty of power. The power top works. And incredibly, the A/C still works! This is not your run of the mill first generation Mustang. Very few 1964 1/2 Mustangs were configured like this one:
If you are into Mustangs, this is great opportunity to get one of the first Mustangs ever built, and get one that was optioned with both style and performance in mind. If we could go back in time...this is exactly how most of us would order one of those first Mustangs! The car is in mypossessionin my garage. You are more than welcome to come and inspect the car in person, in fact as with any car purchase, I recommend you do that. If you can't make it yourself, you are certainly welcome to send a representative to inspect the car for you.
