It sure is a great time to be a pro-touring fan at RK Motors Charlotte! Over the past few weeks all kinds of high-dollar builds have rolled through our doors. And the most recent addition, this killer Mustang, might be the nicest one yet. It's easy to see why with sinister Charcoal highlighting a supercharged 302/5-speed drivetrain, a thoroughly modernized chassis and supple red leather. And, in fact, the amount of detail that went in to this Ford's construction is simply remarkable, as there's virtually no piece that hasn't been smoothed, polished, massaged or upgraded in some way. If you're in the market for classic good looks and spectacular modern performance, this clean Ford is your best option!

BODYWORK/TRIM

The beneficiary of a professional restoration that was completed by the staff of Timeless Kustoms of Camarillo, California, this slick pony features a seamless layer of Charcoal base that's highlighted by a satin hood stripe and sealed in glossy clear. Take one look down the sides of the car's laser-straight body and it becomes very obvious that great care was taken to ensure every panel is aligned to better-than-factory standards. Step closer to that body's mirror-like pigment and check out its straight and ripple-free surfaces, which are a product of both clean OEM sheetmetal and high quality replacement panels. Grab the pivotal pieces of that well-adjusted sheetmetal and experience the kind of excellent fit that's right at home reflecting a summertime car show. Then step back to admire one very well done pro-tourer that's built to exacting specifications.

Back in the day, Ford designers made sure every year of the first generation Mustang had plenty of visual sizzle. And in the 21st century, it doesn't get much better than this drop-top's masterful combination of aggressive accents and well-placed trim. At the front of the car, a monochromatic mesh grille centers HELLA driving lamps between modern headlights, a Shelby-style valance and an aggressive chin spoiler. Behind that grille, a shaved hood anchors a small scoop in front of polished windshield wipers, tinted greenhouse glass and color-keyed, stainless frames. At the sides of that glass, small hot rod mirrors reflect a fully shaved profile. And at the back of that profile, a shaved valence balances a color-keyed bumper between a shaved trunk, flush-fit four-bar taillights and monochromatic exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Hoist the car's snug fitting hood and you'll find 302 cubic inches of Ford V8 that, thanks to a color-keyed Vortech supercharger, twists big horsepower into gobs of stump-pulling torque! At the top of the Jet Black mill, monochromatic pipes shuttle wind from a remote, fender-mount air cleaner to a ceramic-coated throttle body and sleek Trick Flow intake. That wind joins fossils thanks to electronic injection, which makes good uses of an Aeromotive regulator, an Auto Gage pressure gauge and color-keyed fuel rails. When that air/fuel mixture floods the cylinders, a proven Motorcraft distributor sequences fire through sleeved Prestolite plug wires. As that fire turns into compression, resultant gases are jettisoned through ceramic-coated, long-tube headers. That compression's cooling is provided by a big radiator, which stores water in front of two Perma-Cool puller fans. There's a modern serpentine system that spins a painted alternator opposite a painted AC compressor. And overall, the car's glossy engine compartment is exceptionally well done, featuring first rate ancillaries like a polished K&N breather, clean Trick Flow valve covers, sturdy shock tower bracing and a body-matched support shroud.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

At the bottom of this Mustang, a freshened undercarriage houses solid, undercoated floors that are bolted to a roster of top-notch components. Behind the snarling 302, a Pro-5.0 shifter engages a modern 5-speed transmission, which twists a powder-coated Ford axle. That drivetrain rolls on a Total Control Products 4-bar that's fitted with a 5/8-inch sway bar and adjustable VariShock coil-overs. Opposite that 4-bar, a Total Control Products front-half employs a 1-inch sway bar and two more VariShock coil-overs. That hardware is augmented with Flaming River power rack-and-pinion steering. Braking is equally class, with a proven Wilwood master cylinder wrapping beefy Wilwood calipers around four drilled and slotted rotors. The aforementioned headers dump spent gases in to 3-inch, ceramic-coated pipes that employ an H-shaped crossover in front of throaty Pypes Street Pro mufflers. Torque strikes the ground through 18-inch Boze Pro Tourings that twist 245/40 Nitto NT05s in front of 285/35 Nitto NT05s. And everything, from the car's deep-sump oil pan to its welded subframe connectors and quality Aeromotive fuel system, appears clean, sorted and ready to pound the pavement.

INTERIOR

Crack the doors and you'll find a custom leather interior that wraps modern style around modern safety and modern convenience. The heavily bolstered seats, a familiar bench and mid-century, caf-style buckets, are framed by a custom low-profile roll cage and 4-point Sparco harnesses. In front of those perches, an attractive, 2-tone dash hangs racy Auto Meter telemetry to the left of a Pioneer CD player and Vintage Air climate control. At the sides of that dash, custom door panels mimic the style of original factory fodder. Below those panels, muted sills stretch premium carpet under metal foot pedals, style-matched mats and a fourth generation Mustang shifter. In front of the driver, a simple Sparco steering wheel spins a thick, suede rim around a tilting column. And behind the Accumat-wrapped cockpit, the car's fully finished trunk stores a big Memphis Audio subwoofer and dual Memphis Audio amps.
