Description of 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Competition Fastback |
1965 Ford Mustang GT350R Competition Fastback One of the finest Shelby R-spec GT350 tributes you will find on the market! Stellar construction, special attention to detail, and modern enhancements to make it as fun on the street as it would be on the track! Stroked 347ci V8 with four Weber carburetors, Tremec 5-speed manual, 4-wheel Baer disc brakes, Koni suspension, billet racing mirrors, racing seats belts, and so much more! A real head tuner in all respects!! With Carroll Shelby ‘s business, Shelby-American based in Los Angeles, already successful with it reputation for producing huge power from small cars, it was high on Ford Motor Company’s list to see what he could do with their new Mustang. Ford was tired of the Chevrolet Corvette seeing podium finishes at the track and needed the Mustang to change that. To meet SCCA racing guidelines, a race version must have no less than 100 production models built at a Ford facility to be available for the public to purchase. Ford sent all 100 cars direct to Los Angeles for Shelby to tweak into the now famous GT350. Of those, a select 36 were tuned into the track-ready “R” model. The “R” stood for Race! It was stripped of as much weight as possible. No rear seat, all Plexiglas windows with exception to the windshield, no necessity items whatsoever! The 289 was tuned to its absolute peak and went on to win the 1965, 1966, and 1967 B-Class SCCA Championships! We could not be more excited to offer this professionally built 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Competition Series replica! This car is the culmination of nearly 10 years of time, energy, expertise, and lots of money! Featuring the best of modern technology, but not straying too far from a true vintage appearance, this Mustang is about as good as one could ever imagine building in their dreams! Starting with a stellar 1965 Ford Mustang just like Mr. Shelby, they stripped it of all unnecessary weight. The side glass was remade using handmade aluminum frames with new Plexiglas windows that drop with a strap that locks on the door panel, the rear side glass now plastic, and rear window replaced with lightweight plastic with vented pass-thru air ventilation just like the original! An internal roll bar replaced the rear seat, R Model Beard racing seats were installed, and M&R 4-point harnesses for proper safety. The real magic of this amazing machine has everything to do with the mechanicals! Under the hood lies a professionally built and tuned 302ci Dart block stroked to 347ci by SRP/JE, Edelbrock aluminum heads, stainless valves, Comp Cams Magnum roller rockers, and aluminum intake mated with four Weber 48 IDF down draft carburetors! It produces an estimated 500 horsepower and will thrill anyone just to hear it start up! The stainless steel headers and polished stainless steel side exit exhaust make the most wonderful, potent sound! To try to list all of the components, parts, and accessories this car possesses would be nearly impossible without pointing them out in person. We will try to give you the major components in this description, but invite all potential buyers to make efforts to see this car in person to truly witness its build quality! Options include Tremec 5-speed TKO500 manual transmission, Aviaid wet sump oil pan, blow by recovery tank, Moroso auxiliary oil filter, Griffin aluminum radiator with dual cooling fans, MSD 6AL ignition system with high-output Carroll Shelby coil, MSD distributor, balanced aluminum driveshaft, suspension fully tuned by Cobra Automotive, Koni shocks with limiting straps, oversized front sway bar, all polyurethane suspension bushings, 4-wheel Baer brakes with functional brake cooling, fuel cell with custom made aluminum shelf, Lemans-style fuel cap and splash bucket, electric fuel pump, 9-inch rear end with 3.50 Traction-lok, American Racing R-model wheels, full Stewart Warner R-model racing instrumentation, correct wood steering wheel, manually controlled auxiliary cooling fan, and so much more! Special touches will be seen throughout! Even the Ivy Green Metallic paint is near flawless! The lightweight hood scoop is held in place with hood pins as is the rear deck lid for quick access. The lower rear valance panel was stamped with louvers to reduce rear air turbulence! Billet and aluminum accessories include the foot pedals, racing mirrors, clutch & brake reservoirs, etc.! This is truly a no expense spared build! It is estimated to cost well north of $125,000 to produce this quality; structurally, cosmetically, and mechanically! It has been track tuned, race prepped, and couldn’t be more ready to spoil the next lucky owner completely rotten! It has just 708 miles on the odometer after being masterfully designed and thoroughly tested! It will come with an extra set of American racing wheels and tires as well.
