Description of 1928 Ford Model A |
Up for bids is a 1928 Model A Ford Roadster (40-A). This beautiful Model A underwent an expert frame-off restoration in the mid-seventies by an experienced restorer who followed the MARC/MAFCA Judging StandardsIn every respect. In 1975 it won The AACA Nation Award after being judged for originality by expert Model A Judges. The present Owner has enjoyed driving and touring while insisting it always be garaged and meticulously maintained on a regular basis. Although I am not the owner, I have followed it's recent history through our local club affiliation. Over the past twenty years I have restored a dozen or so Model A’s, judged at AACA, MARC and MAFCA National Meets and I can truthfully say this Model A runs and drives as good as any I have driven in the past. The engine runs smooth and quiet with plenty of power. Transmission shifts smoothly and there is plenty of clutch “ride”. Brakes are well adjusted and very reliable. I have inspected the restoration and it has truly been restored to Judging Standard specs down to the correct shocks and tubular shock links. I was especially impressed by all of the original parts still working perfectly such as the, original pop-out ignition switch, powerhouse generator, drum tailight, inside door handles, radiator fan shroud, engine pans just to mention a few. Also, notice the rare dealer option dual spare tire mount! Over the years, several improvements have been made for touring. These include a later Model A clutch replacing the Multi-disc assembly used only a few months in early 1928. More flexible front motor mounts also replaced the originals and a later Model A starter and starter switch were added. Brake rods also have the later adjustable clevis rather than the solid one-piece non-adjusting originals. A new battery was installed August, 2016. All front and rumble seat cushions were recovered by the previous owner as well as a new top installed. Radiator shell, headlights and bumpers were also replaced. Just recently, several other upgrades have been made including the installation of a new main wiring harness, complete new floorboards with correct braces and noise reducing welting. Also, all head bolts were retorqued, brakes adjusted points set and timing set Approximately three years ago I had the opportunity to follow the complete, body-off repaint done here locally by one of our best restoration shops. The body was completely removed from the frame and this beautiful paint job applied. You will be hard pressed to find any fault in the base coat, clear coat very durable finish! Nowhere was any rust found and no dents or scratches needed repair! All welting was replaced when reassembled and the correct pinstripe applied. Also, all six perfect wheels were not simply painted, they have been powder coated and truly add to the beauty of the restore! This beautiful Roadster now goes well beyond just a "driver" and I have no doubt it would have no problem achieving the MARC of Excellence Touring award! All body parts are metal and I found no rust anywhere on the body. The car is located in Augusta, Georgia and I would encourage anyone interested in bidding to either conduct their own inspection or send an independent representative. We can arrange an appointment any day during this auction. I value my 100% Positive feedback and have described this vehicle to the best of my ability. I encourage your questions and will answer them promptly via eBay message, text or phone 706-829-6466 (Frank).
