Description of 1929 Ford Model A Roadster-Pickup |
This 1929 Ford Roadster Pickup is a hot rod in the true sense, faithful to original hot rod sensibilities, but modern enough to tour at high speed. At what speed might you tour? How about fast enough for the Autobahn in Germany, where this truck showed those Europeans what a real hot rod is like! It's been toured twice in Europe, and once in Australia! . It was completely done, down to the bare frame, with restoration photos to match. The more you look at this truck, the more you realize the builder is a man steeped in hot rodding lore. A participant and record holder at Bonneville Salt Flats with his other car. Someone who knows that to build a car, you start with Henry Ford steel components and stay true to the Ford legacy, and make your improvements as needed for reliable and powerful touring adventures! . Let's talk about all of the hot rodding that's hidden underneath the sheetmetal. First up is the stance, with early Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, and 215/70/R16's in front and 225/70/R16's in back. Just the slightest rake looks great! And take a good look at the doors and cab - they have been extended by 4 inches for more room inside and ease of entry. That took a lot of effort - it doesn't jump out at you visually, but it makes all the difference in driving comfort, especially for a tall guy. . Then, let's talk about the mechanical improvements - a 200 Cubic inch "B" engine from 1932, completely rebuilt and rodded with a Cragar overhead valve cylinder head from 1950, Dual Carburetors, Headers, full flow modern oil filter, 5 speed T5 transmission, open driveline, a 1936 Ford rear axle with splined axles, 1956 Ford steering, and 12 volt electrical system. All this work was completed in 2001. . Black complements this rod nicely! 1929FordRoadsterPickup - YouTube Video will open in a new window [isdntekvideo] . A great profile! . The top and top bows are in excellent condition, and the sidecurtains and posts are included. . This is my favorite part of this truck's story - this is the sticker that allows you to drive on the Autobahn in Germany! The builder of this rod shipped it to Europe in 2001 to go on a vintage car tour, and drove it extensively. That's important - he didn't build this truck just to show it, he built it to last, and to work properly! . This was for the Austrian Autobahn. . They also took this truck to Australia in 2004 ! Amazing! . The interior is beautiful - lovely steering wheel, beautiful woodgrained upper dash, and full instrumentation, with Stewart Warner tachometer, drum speedometer, modern fuel gauge, amp guage, oil pressure gauge, and fuel pressure gauge. Of course all of these instruments work great! . Wow! . Beautiful leather interior . Matching seat belts are a nice touch. Just a little scuffing on the seat seam, where you get in and out. . Lovely doorpanels. Really high quality throughout. . Speaking of high quality, let's take a look at that engine! 200 cubic inch "B" Ford 4 cylinder, with all kinds of vintage speed equipment! And it's not just pretty, it runs great and has WAY more power than a Ford 4 cylinder engine is entitled to! . I love this. " CRAGAR" ! On the side of the engine. . Very, very nice! Note the clean headers, and the aluminum water pump. . The CRAGAR cylinder head is from 1950. The generator is actually an alternator made to produce 12 volts. . . All that touring has put some rock chips and scratches on the paint, visible here below the radiator, and there are other places with chips too, especially the runningboards. It's a high quality paint job that just has some evidence of high speed road use! . And some paint flaws near the hood handle. The paint is very nice but has some signs of use since 2001. . Restoration photos of the engine build . And the bare frame! . Fit check on the T-5 transmission. . And some nice, shiny sheetmetal . There it is closer to completion in 2001. . HOP UP magazine, described as the Annual for the Traditional Hot Rod & Custom, gave this truck a nice 2 page feature just after it's first European tour was completed.. Here it is - ready for the new owner to have his own adventures!Offered by the Vault Classic Cars Dealership, Fullerton, CA, call us at 714-401-1047
